Sync Not Updating for older 2011 Mustangs

I just got off the phone with the Sync team and was told that my 2011 Mustang, because of a build date of Oct 2010, would NOT be receiving the new 3.2 update. I was told the tech life of my version was at an end...crazy as its less than a year old... He said that the newer 2011 models would get the update, but not the older ones, ever. But he did apologize, which I gather was supposed to make me feel better... I would think that Ford would be open to some liability as we were all marketed to the idea of Sync being constantly updated as tech was developed.. now its possible that in the same model year as our cars, the system has reached its tech lifetime end. Can anyone else confirm what I was told? From a better source than the phone number on the IVT team profile? I sent a PM also to them..hoping to hear back with some encouraging news.

Thanks

The problem is that the hardware must support the update. For instance the update that allowed turn by turn directions was not supported by the older hardware. Bug fixes are a diffrent matter then new features.

I have an older build 2011 as well--you'd think Ford would at least want to support the 2011 model year cars through the end of calender year 2011. Even in the relative short life span of cars and computers--this is short.

Tech life at an end for a brand new car? Sync sucks! Sounds like a class action in the making.

You have GOT to be sh*tting me... New Ford marketing slogans:
  • "Built to Last... for five months"
  • "Quality is Job 1... until it leaves the factory door, then you're on your own."
  • "Redheaded bastard step child... Surprise!!! You're it!"
So, let me get this straight... I buy a 2011 Super Turbo Widget, but parts are only available for FOUR MONTHS after I bought it? WTF!?

Because of their atrocious customer support and lack of business ethics, my first Ford has become my last Ford... They are successfully turning a once joyful purchase into a deeply disappointing nest of snakes.

Any online Ford personal wish to chime in and assuage our disquietude? Anyone? Anyone???

This would be a problem!

As far as I know, all 3.2 does is make more phones compatible with the text reading function; is it really that big a deal guys?

Hmm... since I am having difficulties getting my Blackberry Storm II to function properly with SYNC, perhaps it could be a big deal.... if not 3.2, perhaps in 3.3, and what about future upgrades that we won't get? Are we now locked into the current smartphone list because SYNC 3.1 won't recognize anything newer?

Also, since using syncmyride "ensures that your version of SYNC is fully equipped and up to date*" perhaps someone can enlighten us as to why it is unreasonable to expect them to live up to their words? Or is that just more marketing BS to sell $2300 units....

* From the syncmyride.com "Confirmed Installations" page.

Wow u guys sound pissed, my 08 V6 doesn't have nav so never had update issues, but what happens when the 2013 comes out with an update for their nav and we all ordered 2012 and we'd be all getting pissed at why we didn't get the update!

Our 2011 that was built on 1/7/2011 has Sync 3.1, and the Sync site says there are no updates to download, as if Sync 3.2 does not apply. Our Sync often has trouble pairing, like it's a crapshoot.

I'm stuck on 3.1 as well, though Sync works fine with my Android device most of the time. Once in a while, it's like the system has a bad day hearing my voice and doesn't get anything right but otherwise, it's been fine.

I will agree - it's ridiculous that a 2011 car isn't capable of the latest version, regardless of how big or small the new features are. I know we're all excited about the 2013 'Stang, but it's still 2011 and our cars are 2011's.

That's it! I needed an excuse to buy a 2013!

Just kidding.....but seriously I don't care about the text issue as much as I do the quirky-ness. Having it not sync up to my Thunderbolt or just not working at all is just annoying. My dealer told me to attend their sync class....seriously?? This is my 3rd car with sync. Why would I want to attend a class that teaches you how to use the text feature and directions.....what good will that do me when I don't have the stinkin update!? Rant over.

Hey, everyone!

We haven't forgot about our 3.1 customers. I can assure you that our engineering team is working on an update. Like the 3.2 update, MAP (Message Access Profile) will be implemented to give more SYNC users the ability to have text messages read aloud to them while driving. Unfortunately, I can't speculate on when it will be available and I apologize for any confusion from the phone support team. When I receive more info I'll post to let you know.

SoFL05GT -

Which phone do you have do? Does your Mustang have nav?

If anyone has questions, feel free to PM me.

Jaclyn

If we're reporting problems here, my phone has problems with my 2012 with nav.

I have a Samsung Fascinate. Using the stock firmware and custom Gingerbread, the phone doesn't stay synced if I transfer the address book, whether automatically or selectively by hand.

If I decide to not transfer any contacts, everything works great. But, I only know a couple of phone numbers without using the contact list.

Using my VIN how can I tell when my car was built? I know it's a 2011 but was it built in late 2010? Early 2011? Is there a web site that will pinpoint this info for me?

Thanks,

KT

Jaclyn, Thanks for posting. The phone is an LG Optimus S - Android version 2.3.3 and no nav.

Intent of the thread wasn't to start listing off any problem we're having with Sync. Would probably be easier if you got in touch directly with Jacklyn and/or the Sync team.

Look on the sticker on your driver's door - it should say a build month.
