IMO i think the rear tires are a little too skinny, 255's are not the way to go with this car. I'm not flaming Ford for it, but it will be the second mod i do to my 5.0. Lower the stance by getting FRRP springs and then get 295's rubber for the rear. I'll probably keep the 255's for the front. I'm not changing wheels, for once, i think the factory wheels looks just nice with the Brembo pkg.

Lol jk man. So are you going to have the factory wheels widened? 295s on a 9" wheel won't work very well.

 

On my 2006 I have 285s all the way around. It is the way to go. I also have the FRPP Springs.

 

Going from 255/40/19 to 295/30/19 results in the tire being 40mm increase in width. Stock is 10.03 inches that combo is 11.61 inches section width. If you really wanted more tire you could go 325/30/19 (same on a c6 Zo6) Which has a 12.79inches section width. 2.76 inches wider per tire. or just over 5.5inch increase overall. And it still fits the parameters.

 

I maybe missing something here, but aren't the stock wheels 9" wide on Brembo's ! 285/40/19 would be nice as well.

 

You're going to put 295's on a 9" wheel?

Just so you know, a 285 is the MAXIMUM recommended size on a GT500 9.5" wheel. Any wider and you outside of specs. 255 is about all you wanna put on a 9". Get the wheels widened if you like them.

 

To put things in perspective, a Z06 rear wheel is 12" wide.

Eh, Ford and GM have been putting 275s on 17x9 for years. I have them all around right now, but regret it due to the tracking of the grooves. I'm going to go back down to a 245 in front. But there's no way you're getting 295s on a 19x9. Like I said, you should have the wheels widened, say an inch, run some 305s, then run a 0.5" spacer to push them out a little.

 

275 on a 9" meets specs but I think is too narrow.

Little skinny wheels and tires, the one thing Ford will NEVER fix for us via options. Always have to do ourselves. The 5.0 should have a 10" wide rear rim STANDARD, GT500 should be 12"+.

 

I have seen 295's on a 9 inch rim and like the look a lot. Go at least 265 on the fronts you won't be sorry

When you can get a Mustang GT to pull a .96G skidpad number with the OEM tires, how much bigger do you need?

If it is just for looks, then putting a 275 or 285 or 295 section tire on the 9" wide rim isn't going to be a big problem. If you are doing it to try and increase the road holding ability, I doubt you will get much of an increase over the great stick of the stock tires.

 

ECI is right...a 255 tire is pretty much all you want to put on a 9" wide wheel. A 275 really would like a 10" wide wheel but a 275 will suffice. A 19X9.5 and 19X10 would be perfect set for the GT. Run 275's up front and 285's in the rear. If you want to run a square setup just go 19X9.5 on all 4 corners and run 275/35/19's.

 

Skidpad isn't the only measure of performance. Some people like to launch their car from 0 MPH on the street.

 

If a hard launch on the street or strip is what you are after then you need drag radials. And again, the 9" wide wheels would serve just fine for those and that purpose since corner burning isn't a drag radials forte.

 

what if you want to launch your car from 0mph on the street AND carve corners?

 

So this means the 235's on the (Pony V-6) 8 inch wide wheels are about the widest tire that should be used?

 

the 275's im switching to will do fine for DD. drag radials for racing.
