I'm convinced that Ford will preview the refreshed (and later the redesigned) Mustangs at the Detroit autoshow BEFORE it goes on sale to the Public.
If it's not there in 2 weeks (which I doubt it will be) then it won't be a 2009 model. However, it could show up at next years show and be a 2009.5 model as some have suggested.
I'll be there for the first public day of the show, but by then the press will have already seen everything and we'll probably know one way or the other.

Likely the 2009-2010 will be a "refresh" along the scale of the '99 refresh. The 2012ish iteration will be more of a "redesign," whether clean sheet like the 2005 or at least on the scale of the 1993 Stang (new body/interior on updated existing platform).
Supposedly it's a new platform shared with the Falcon.

However. I should have used the term, re-style instead of re-design. As I now realize that my interpretation, was clearly misunderstood. I suppose that's what occurs, when assuming that both terms, are one in the same.

Lets hope Ford are already working on the Huntsman/new Falcon platform already.
Whilst I think the new Camaro is stunning, it's taken far too long to go from concept to production. As I'm sure you know, Holden has been developing the Zeta platform for GM. First came the Commodore saloon, then this was developed into the Pontiac G8 etc. Now GM are developing the Camaro along with the Commodore Utes.
Whilst I appreciate Ford will have to get the bread and butter cars developed first (Falcon), I hope the 2012/3 Mustang is developed alongside. The current platform could look quite dated against the new Camaro, so Ford had better be on their game.

Fair enough, I wasn't aware of that.
But, does it really make sense for Ford to produce two RWD platforms? Are Huntsman and the Global RWD platform completely seperate? If so, that's madness, surely.
Whilst it's taking GM far too long to develop (in my opinion) at least Zeta is a global platform and should enable RHD cars to be spun off it (think Australia/UK/Japan). That's what Ford needs.
Sorry, we're a bit off topic now

There are hints that GRWDP is the real "new" platform and that Huntsman is more a continuation of the Orion with updates than an all-new platform. This is also why speculation of Falcon being imported has sharply fallen as its looking more like domesticly-bred Sedans are in the offing. If that's so, then Falcon would eventually move to GRWDP, and possibly become more common with the US sedans, sometime between Huntsman and 2020.
I think people are getting bent out of shape when it comes to CY vs MY...the new Mustang will most likely be out by the Spring of 2009, making it either a 2009.5 or 2010 MY car, depend on how Ford wants to launch it.

That being said, IMHO. I really don't expect, the next generation will arrive on the all new global RWD platform, until April 2014, as a 2014.5 model.
In which will also mark, the Mustang's 50th anniversary.
I mean we could be wrong...
...but just because a platform is scheduled for x date doesn't mean it will be used RIGHT away....I can see the it being 2010-2014 at least
I totally agree 100%. As it wouldn't make any logical sense for Ford to spend lots of $$$ towards the 2010MY restyle. If it's only going to live a 2-3 year generation !

Instead the D/EW-98 platform was found to be too expensive, the new Stang was delayed forcing the New Edge Stang to hang on for 6 years. We could wind up with deja-vu all over again with Ford's new global RWD platform too expensive for the Mustang and the 2010 refresh Stang hanging on for 5 or 6 years.
My guess (emphasis on guess) on the timing is that it will parallel 2004. There were pre-production 2005 Mustangs at the 40th Anniversary show in Nashville over the weekend of April 17, 2004. The 2005 model then began production a few months later. Supposedly there is a 45th anniversary show being planned, which affords the opportunity to do the same. That's only a little more than one year from now. The timing feels about right.
By the way, any of you at the 40th Anniversary show? What a blowout event. I had a great time.

IMO ! It also wouldn't make much sense. If Ford were to build the next generation Mustang within just 2-3 years, before reaching it's 50th anniversary.
