stress crack in new '14 mustang

I need some advice i just recently bout a 2014 mustang and just a few weeks ago I noticed a small stress crack in my passenger tail light. i went to the ford dealer i bought the car from and the guy took some pictures and sent them to ford to see if it would be covered under warrantee. a week went by and I heard nothing so I went back and he told me ford requested better pics now at this point I’m now noticing condition in the tail light. He took pictures of that and resubmitted the form. They rejected the warrantee clam again ford clams it was do to outdoor conditions. The guy then gave me the customer service number and told me to call them so I did. I was on the phone with them for about 30 minutes they told me that it will be investigated and someone from the ford dealer I went to would contact me. An hour later the same guy called me and told me he submitted the form a 3rd time and ford rejected it again and now ford said it could have cracked from a ball hitting the tail light. now my car is parked in a gate at night and when I’m at work its in a gated facility so it being hit with something like that is not possible. this is extremely upsetting and frustrating and i feel like I’m getting jerked around the car is not even 3 months old. Does anyone have any suggestions or has this ever happened to them.

Stress crack was caused by a light impact like a soccer ball or a bump from a person. Not weather conditions.

That's an expensive taillight to replace out of pocket!

Hello mustang1028,

Welcome to the forum! My mane is Deysha with Ford Service. I’d like to review this tail light issue for you. Please PM me with your VIN, dealer, mileage, full name, and best daytime number. Since this was denied multiple times, I can’t promise anything will change.

Like others have said, that is an expensive light to pay for and unfortunately you have discovered the part of Ford warranty that if they can blame it on some type of damage instead of a defect, that is what they will do.

I do understand Ford's position to a point but when you are the car owner and you know that you did not damage something on your car and they are basically blaming you for the damage, it pisses you off. I've been buying new cars since 1993 from other makes and have never had this kind of treatment. It is very frustrating. I hope Deysha can help you out.

Hope you get it resolved... if you can't get it covered, it's probably worth an insurance claim as each light is something like $900 from Ford...

It's aggravating I know. But, I understand Ford's position. The ones that have gone before you have made it hard for you to get satisfaction. I agree with my friend here. If you have comprehensive tell your insurance you don't know how it got broke, but it's broke. Most insurance companies do not have a deductible when using comprehensive. Good luck.

Good idea. File an insurance claim and pay the comprehensive deductible. Most likely 250 bucks.

Sell the cracked tail light for 500 bucks on eBay or craigslist.

Get your 250 back and Send me the remaining 250 for helping you.

I have the same issue. The crack has reached over an inch at the least. any idea on how to fix? Ford is obviously refusing to fix this, I did find a tail light setup at a junk yard but never gotten a part from there for, so pretty sketch on that.

The hell with junk yard parts on a brand new car. Raise some hell and hold Ford's feet to the fire. That is unacceptable. Go to the dealership and raise hell, then inform them that you are going to the local media and start sending certified letters to Ford corporate ASAP.

Not meaning to be a dick here, I'm just playing Devil's advocate . But how do you know that some kids baseball didn't hit it when it was parked and you weren't around? I get those paranoid thoughts when I park my Boss at the HS I teach, but the bottom, line is the car provides no pleasure sitting in the garage.

Sure it does, just ask any of us that don't drive them in the winter or on rainy days, etc.
