edited:

If we can assume the new mustang will share the same platform as the new mazda 6,then maybe we will get these hints?...maybe slightly bigger, and could a 4 be in it's future?

"It?s expected to measure-in about 2-inches longer (with a 2-inch longer wheelbase) and a tad bit wider. Sources tell us to expect it to be powered by Ford?s 3.5-liter V6, as well a 180-horsepower 4-cylinder powerplant, and all-wheel-drive will be offered as an option. A hybrid, as well as a Mazdaspeed version, will eventually follow."

If memory serves the present mustang platform (aka D2C) is based on the platform used on the Lincoln LS, Thunderbird and Jag S-Type (aka DEW)

"based" but the current mustang does not and has never shared platforms with any other vehicle.

And if it is tranisitioned to a shared platofrm for 2010/11/12 as many believe, it would most likely not be the 6's platform.

The body shops are separate for the S197 Mustang and the Mazda 6. They do come down the same final trim line, as mentioned and pictured above.

i think they meant the mazda 6 and fusion sharing the same platform. about time ford put the 3.5 in the fusion and mazda 6. hopefully ford will put a good looking interior in the fusion when that redesign comes out.

ahh the old sawtooth blue bubble wrap on the bumpers, that left a ton of residue when removed.... the good old days. Yea the only thing shared with the DEW98 LS platform is a section of the floor pan and the front frame rails, which was beefed up on 07's to accommodate the GT500.

Thats why the Flatrock plant is so innovative. A Madza 6 can come down the line and the a Mustang GT could be right behind it.

They increased efficiency by making the vast majority of fasteners the same between the cars.

Having worked on my roomate's speed 6 (yes I know it's built in Japan) and my Mustang I can attest to the fact that most of the fasteners are identical.

If they are so darn efficient at Auto Alliance, then why can't we get a legitimate Special Edition Mustang that is staged between the Mustang GT and the Shelby GT500?

Don't mind me, I am just playing Devils advocate.
