Steeda tune/SCT flash left car unable to start

Went to load my Steeda tune on the SCT flash, and after completing it, the car will not start. The gauges cycle through with a number of errors, and the odometer does not show. I tried going through the menu and returning it to stock, but it doesn't recognize the car.

Before replying, I did not try to install with it running. I followed the on-screen prompts and it appeared to load fine, but when I tried to start it, it was another story.

You didn't do a firmware update or pull any fuses, just plug in and go, right?

I did update the firmware to the latest from SCT, but since u updloaded already you cant do it until the car is returned to stock.

after i did the firmware, i pluged in , selected custom tune, selected Performance tune from BAMA, and waited 5 min. car fired up after i cycled the key off when it was done.

I checked mine and the firmware was the latest, so no update was needed. It was 1.2.124-3015 before I started.

Nope, this came right out of the box, checked firmware, and then went to plug it in.

Let me tell ya, I love having a 3600 lb. paperweight in the garage right now...

Call SCT tech, they will straighten it out.

Same thing happened to another owner on another forum (not you is it?) but he let Ford get the car and now he is screwed because they are putting in a new pcm and his tuner will be locked out and he will have to pay to get it unlocked.

The SCT rep on the forum posted that he could have fixed it for the guy with one 20 minute phone call.

This is what he posted on the other forum:

My first post here. I am an SCT employee. I post on many forums watching out for specific issues.

What you need to do is call our tech support line (SCT, not AM.) They will work with you and make what is called a recovery file. This file will then get loaded back to your device and force a return to stock. Once that is done you should be able to program your vehicle as normal.

Just for clarification though, you started with one tune then switched to another without returning to stock (which is correct) and the vehicle would not start after that tune was flashed in? Or was it when you went back to the first tune?

Most of these problems arise when tune files are made for a different strategy than what is actually in the vehicle. The older processors were usually fine with this but the newer ones are not. Tune files need to be set up to match the strategy code that is in your vehicle.

Your processor is not dead (unless you pulled the plug or something while in the middle of programming) and you should not need to go to Ford. A recovery file from us should do the trick.

Thanks, that sounds about right. That was not me on the other forum.

Unfortunately, SCT tech is closed until Monday AM. Looks like I'll be sitting with a "dead" car until later this week.

Keep us posted

Wonder if it could be the Steeda tune? I think ShaneGT stated that he used the Bama. Curious, would a Bama or Steeda make a difference or is it in the SCT module?

Tried that. The cluster goes red, and I get "service Advancetrac", TMPS fault, charging system failure, and a bunch of idiot lights and some weird chimes.

Did you get the correct PCM code out of your car that you gave to Steeda or just the code off the sticker? It could have been updated at the dealer before you picked it up and they usually fail to put a new code sticker on it.

I gave them the processor code off the sticker in the engine bay.

That could be the source of the problem, it was written for a computer with the wrong code. It's always a good idea to get it directly from the computer itself by using a SCT tuner, I think it's a 5 or 6 digit code by doing it that way instead of the 4 on the sticker. It's also a good idea to check it that way before and after going to the dealer for service in case they update it without you knowing.
Return computer to stock before going to dealer and write down computer code.

After getting car back from dealer, check code again to see if it matches the code you had before.

If it matches, re-load your tune. If not, give new code to Steeda and have them update it.

You might already know this, but I'm repeating it for people unaware of this procedure.
