Steeda 5.0 CAI & Tune - new best ET and Trap Speed!

For those who have followed our previous posts or seen our advertised info on our website for our cold air and tune below for reference, we have new results to report!

http://www.steeda.com/store/steeda-p...d-mustang.html

We had previously gone a best of 11.96 at 115.1 mph in testing with just our Steeda CAI, custom tune, and Nitto Drag Radials to get the power down. This was our original tune package on 93 octane in a 3.73 equipped car.

We have since further refined our tunes and have been upgrading customers who already had our package free of charge and have been getting awesome feedback and impressive dyno results.

https://themustangsource.com/f726/ne...wesome-491233/

We now have a new best 1/4 mile E.T. and trap speed. They didnt happen on the same pass, but they almost never do anyway.

Our new best E.T is 11.88, but there is more to be had here and we will go back for more testing to get it. When we sent the car back to our Georgia facility, someone forgot to put the tuner back in the car. With a set of short 275/40/17 drag radials we hit the rev limiter in 4th well short of the finish line and could not change it without the tuner handy. This limited our trap speed on the 11.88 pass to only 113.37 mph. Here is the timeslip for that one.

A subsequent pass shifting into 5th got us an 11.95, so the shift cost us some time, but staying under power gave us a great 116.85 mph trap speed. Here is the timeslip for that one.

In previous discussions I had mentioned we wanted to get 116-117mph trap speed with just a cold air and tuning, no other power modifications. The car we are using has completely stock exhaust down to the axle back and no other power adders other than the cold air.

Our new goal is 11.70's and to break the 117mph barrier with just the cold air, tune, and drag radials. We are pretty close now. Just need to get a clean pass.

But for now, 11.88 and a 116.85 trap speed is not too shabby

Comparing those two time slips, it wasn't just the shift to 5th that slowed the E.T., all the way down the time slip the second run was slower than the first. The only thing that was a quicker time on the second run was the 60 foot time, after that it was slower all the way down.

Had that second run been as good as the first you would have almost equalled the E.T. from the first run plus you would have that higher MPH.

Yes, that run was just a tick behind the other one for most of the run, so the shift into 5th certainly wasnt going help either. LOL

This is what I like to see, drag times. Much better than analyzing dyno graphs

That's impressive with just a tune, CAI and slicks.
Too bad my garage isn't 1/4 mile long ! I have the updated Steeda tune in but with this snowy weather we've been getting lately , their's no way i can drive the car. Thx again to Gus and the staff over at Steeda for taking good care of their customers.

Thats AMAZING!

Would a 5.0 with a 3.55 gears be able to get this 1/4 time? Or is this just possible with the 3.73?

I just ordered my cai and tune from Gus, who was very patient while I looked for the proper information for him.

Now if only I were a better driver I could get in the 11's!

That is very, very impressive info..... these new 5.0s continue to impress me to no end with their performance and response to minimal mods. What a powerhouse engine Ford has given the buying public..... and compliments to Steeda for continuing to offer great products and refinements that add up to even further enhanced performance!

Guys I wouldnt worry to much about the ET's if you cant drive, The driveability alone is worth the price of admission. Skip shift is gone, the rev limiter is set higher, and you will have more horsepower, torque, and better fuel economy than stock. When I bought my 5.0 stock I ran 13's and after about 50 passes and some tire Im in the high 11's low 12's. Install the kit and get in some seat time. Good luck.

Thank you for your business!

Also keep in mind that this was on drag radials, not slicks. She's got more time in her on slicks. Our short times are only in the 1.71 range. Slicks could get us in the 1.56 to 1.64 range which would mean even better times.

Have you guys at Steeda been in contact with Ford enough to know if the current CAI & tune and the shortshifter will be compatible with the 2012's?

I've already been bit with a GT500 diffuser that will need modified to work with my backup sensors.

I think it would actually be about the same. Especially since 3.55's would keep you closer to peak power in 4th as you are crossing the traps. With 3.73's and the short tire we ran we needed 7400rpm to cross the traps in 4th.

With 3.55's and a tire size closer to stock you should be in the 7000-7100 range through the traps.

As long as you get a good launch and hook, A 3.55 car should easily be high 11 second capable with the same combo.

By the way, a little driving tip for you guys, we got the both the best ET's and trap speeds in our testing shifting every gear around 7200-7300. These cars love to rev!

I cant wait to see how much you can rev these cars with a Boss intake. Thats going to be sick!

We believe the short shifter will be the same, but we've been bitten by that before. Info we got ahead of time for the Ford Fiesta ended up not matching the final car. So we just have to wait and see.

The cold air intake will be the same, but we expect the processor codes to change which will require SCT updates. SCT has been on the ball with updates so we expect very little, if any delay in getting 2012 tuning up and running.

Ok. I'm sold...two questions:
1) Do you guys offer a package for folks who have an SCT X3 tuning pad already (and just need the intake and tune)?

2) I expect to put major mileage on this car over the years...assuming good maintainence practices, will any part of this tune affect longevity (like the higher redline)?

Thanks for any info!

Results looks impressive. Waiting for a 2012 and will want a tune. Maybe I should PM you but curious if your tunes are upgradable for life without charge as Bama and if they are compatable with SCT units?
