Something @ NY Auto Show?

Based on the plans for it to come out in the following april, this april is the NY auto show, do you think they will show something of any value, considering they have all these spys going around, and its only a couple months away? I can only hope

I felt the passed few auto shows were pretty bad......especially Detroit. I was hoping for something grand, but there really wasnt anything that cool...from any automaker. I'm a huge advocate of the NYIAS, and Ford, as well as all the others, NEED something cool at this show. They need to spark more interest from the public. I'm hoping for the new Mustang and Camaro as well as something else really new and realistic.....not just another concept that will never get made.

What I think would be really cool is if they did something cool with Mercury, like something completely different and original. Personally, I feel if they're to keep Mercury around they need to differentiate it from Ford and Lincoln.....kind of like mazda, but its own company. That way they can have the Fords, and then Lincoln as the Luxury versions.

A lot of people(including myself) think Ford should do something special with the Mercury Brand.
I like Mercury. I prefer the Milan & Sable over the Fusion & Taurus. But, I agree, they do need to offer different cars. At least 2 vehicles that are completely different from Fords. It would be nice if Mercury was an entirely new company, with different engines etc., but its just not feasible right now, due to the lack of resources.

If Ford were to give Mercury a make-over, the one thing that needs to remain is their identity of being more "upscale" then a Ford.
I would also like to see them get sportier, with all the goodies - IRS, TTV6 etc. As you pointed out, add some of that "ZOOM, ZOOM" factor into the brand.
It would be nice to see a sports car or two from Mercury. Even a sporty little sedan. They need a convertible as well.

Yeah the DC autoshow was even more sub-par than usual. What's up with Aston Martin not showing up at the shows this year?

I wouldn't bet on anything significant in terms of the 2010 at the New York Show. There won't be a 2010 concept car, so they won't need the lead time they had with the 2005 to make changes based on public response. I would expect a reveal at the 2009 Detroit Show on January 11, 2009, and an early release in April or May 2009--maybe at the Mustang 45th Anniversary Celebration at Barber Motorsports Park here in Birmingham April 17-19, 2009.

Having said that, Mark Fields told us there would be a special edition Mustang every year, and I don't think the Glassroof counts. 2009 will be a short model year, so they're going to have to show us the '09 SE soon!

Not that it would have mattered anyway.... the concept was done after the production car was set in stone.

They had time to make changes if the public didn't like the concept '05.

I don't think will see a 2010 concept either. In fact. I can't recall ever seeing a concept, during a current model's re-freshening cycle.

For ie there was no concept of the SN-95's (99) re-fresh. So why should the S-197 re-fresh be any different.

If anything. will see an SE 09 Mach 1 and Boss at the New York Show.

For it's just as Mark Fields said. there will be a special edition Mustang every year.

Actually, it was sold to the private investors backed by financial help from investment companies based in Kuwait. Here is an Autoblog story with the details.

I wonder if we'll see a mach 1 or boss.....I honestly dont know if it will happen. It would certainly be cool though. IF there is something there mustang related, it would have to be one of those or if we're really lucky a 2010 prototype....but thats wishful thinking. They will probably just have the Bullitt there.

And in regards to what Rocky said about not having a model's refreshing concept for the SN-95.......was the 1999 FR500 concept that car? I was kinda young back then and dont really know what purpose that car served.

Things change but I think NYIAS is too soon to show the '10.
Ford is still trying to sell '08 Bullitts and other '08GT/V6's.
The MY2009 can't even be ordered yet and they are counting on that Glassroof option to be a big seller. If they were to show the next generation they would have a hard time selling the current style without a huge incentive and/or price slash. Both of which Ford can't do right now.
2009 models will probably hit showrooms in the May/June timeframe and continue through Jan/Feb '09 around NAIAS. Then I think we'll see the whole new line-up, Boss, Shelby, GT, V6, etc.
For the rest of this year we will probably see a MACh (40th Anniv.) at NY or in April at the MCA 44th Annual Show.
