My friends Z06 came with it. It made it possible to avoid the gas guzzler tax. It was a pain in the *** because it locks you out of 2nd and 3rd right at the sweet spot for normal driving. There was an indicator light on the dash by the tach but who watches the tach in traffic? Often the way I found out I was locked out was that 2nd didn't go in. So you drive by winding up 1st way more than you want so you can survive in 4th. From the mind of idiots. There was a mod he added. Some kind of plug adapter in the transmission which disabled the lock out although the skip shift light still comes on.

One thing that might help is 4th gear in the MT82 is not 1:1. 5th gear is 1:1. So, I'm guessing here, it might be like skipping 2nd and shifting into 3rd in a 5 speed car.

I'll just buy the eliminator that someone will eventually come out with, plug it in, and be done with it. Everyone's getting worked up about this and the fix is a simple part and/or a tune.

Yes, I don't get this either. It sounds like we'll have to wind up in first gear, so that the silly skip shift doesn't come on. What a pain in the rear!
Lugging the engine is shifting into top gear (say 4th) and having WAY below the power band.
I don't get skip shift. It forces the engine to lug and that actually eats up more gas. Lugging increases load and without gobbs of torque, like a diesel, it;s hard on the engine.
There must be a small window of increased mileage to warrant skip shift. Or it was some bureaucrats great idea.

I might be driving a Challenger R/T now if it was about 6k cheaper and didn't have this silly "feature."
The "silly" feature made the choice easy (nevermind that the R/T is huge. The interior feels like a Polara wagon etc)

Can't blame the auto companies for causing the skip-shift. This is something forced by our
governmental bureacracy so the lifers in government service will look good to a senate sub-committee
in order to get the opportunity to waste more money doing the same all over again.

Also, I'm not doubting this is true, but I'm curious as to why Ford has not mentioned this at all. Or have they?
I watched the Wall Street Journal video from the NAIS auto show, where they interviewed the 5.0 lead engineer, and asked him how they achieved the power and economy numbers. His answer included a lot of engine and drivetrain efficiency changes, lots of aerodynamic changes, but he did not mention CAGS (Computer Aided Gear Selection) or skip shift.

Yes my Challenger R/T has the skip shift but the Predator tunes turn it off, or a $20 skip shift eliminator. It is annoying but better than paying a huge tree hugging tax.
I am sure the SVT tuners will allow you to turn it off.
The Hill Start Assist feature in the Challenger can be hepful for those that are learning to drive a stick but can be turned off if you don't need it

But, I don't know how you are sure that the SVT tuners will allow it to be turned off. GM has had their CAGS system for over a decade now, and have never offered a switch to simply turn it off.

If Ford insists on such a system, at least use 3rd instead of 4th gear. It would be the slightly more tolerable "W" economy shift pattern. C'mon, dare to be different.

What ever happened to knowing how to drive?

I had mine for several days and decided it was broke. Managed to prove it wasnt.
1. Accelerat at very light throttle.
2. When you get to about 12 mph (20 kmh) and the car starts to strain to pick up more mph do not shift (like a normal person) or give it more throttle.
3. Grit your teeth and wait while it slowly struggles to 15-17 mph (24-27 kmh).
4. Finally Shift....
5. Hmmmm that didnt give 4th did it?
6. Give it gas... cant tell...give it gas,,, cant tell.... Gouge it!.... yep thats 4th.
Repeat with same results... Repeat with same results.... Memorize rpm in 4th so I can tell without flooring the throttle.
Thats the only way Ive been able to get it to activate.
In normal situations I just take off in 2nd. Its lower than 1st was in a Close-Ratio Toploader.
Not to many chances of doing 10% throttle shifts at 16 mph when I actually think I need 1st.
PS My car has 3.55 Gears like standard Canadian cars and I have read on other posts/forums that they do have skip-shift.
