Always better to get them from the factory than paying way over $400 down the road to have some hack put them in. They will also be under warranty from Ford. JMO~

Thats a huge point too. I paid about $300 in labor plus $200 in
parts but I have no warranty at all.

The hardest thing about the gas mileage is keeping your foot out of the gas because it's so much fun.
Points taken guys

Ok Manny mabye one run or two at Fontana when they open it up for amateurs

Well guys I've got good news and bad news. Good news is I've decided to take most of your advice and opt for the 3.73s. Bad news is I have to wait till Saturday to order. This dealer has a no refund policy on deposits (which they require since I want the glass roof ). So I just have to double check with my bank first before I pull the trigger.

Man this thing is gonna cost a pretty penny!

You deserve it Jason. You've worked hard and put it off till you could afford it. Best of luck with the bank and I hope all goes well and easy.

When are they expecting deliveries of 2011's? You might get you Mustang about the same time I get my Raptor.

Then we'll each need to make a new pic ***** thread!

That was the 2010 3.73 axle package. For 2011, the 3.73's are available as a stand-alone option.

Personally, if I were buying a 2011 GT I'd get 4.56 or 4.88 gears so that I could cross the 1/4 mile traps at redline in 5th (closest thing to a 1:1 in the 6 speed automatic) after a few simple mods.

For a 2011 GT with a manual trans, I'd opt for 4.30 gears combined with the steeper 1st gear in the new 6 speed manual. 3.73's are just not enough gear for someone like me. For a street car that never sees track duty, 3.73's or 4.10's would be a good choice, though.

I took a 8 to 10 percent reduction in Highway MPG. In town I just drive around in the next higher gear so its a wash. Maybe a smite better because with the 3.73s, you can get the RPM a little lower without bogging down. (lugging)

i voted for the 3.73's.

as a side to this topic, there are also differences with the tire and rim choices.
for instance:
18inch rims get 235/50 tires
19inch rims get 245/45 tires
brembo 19inch rims get 255/40 tires

19 inch = 1.6% slower rotation = 60.9mph compared to 60mph for the 18 inchers.

brembo 19 inch = .8% faster rotation = 59.5mph compared to 60mph for the 18 inchers.

brembo 19 inch = 2.3% faster rotation = 58.6mph compared to 60mph for the 19 inchers.

so if only slightly, you're gonna get a bit more than just 3.73's, 3.55's, 3.31's by getting the brembo 19 inch wheels and tires and a bit less than 3.73's, 3.55's, 3.31's by getting the optional 19 inch wheels and tires where the biggest difference is seen between the 19 inch rim choices.

are the speedos all corrected for these minor differences?

Yes, I believe they are corrected from the factory.

if you are not going to race it, probably the 3.55s will be plenty. someone did a gearing comparison of the old 5 speed with 3.73, 3.55 and the new 6 speed and first gear was similar multiplier with the 3.73 and 5 speed and 3.55 and 6 speed. i have the 3.73 on my 2010 and if i was getting a 2011 i would drop down to the 3.55

EDIT: heres the link to the ratio comparison some real good info here

I'm not telling anyone else what to do but I decided to stick with the standard axle. With the Coyote and the new transmission, it's going to be fast enough that I don't care about chopping another 2 or 3 tenths of a second off of it's quarter mile time. I'd rather put the $400 into a high end RADAR detector.
