Question Which short shifter ???

I have been thinking about putting a shorter travel shifter in my GT. I have been looking at Roush,Hurst,Steeda,FRPP,MGW ,etc. I was wondering about the opinions of those who have installed one of these shifters. Are they worth it for a daily driver ? etc Are they really an improement over stock ? OPINIONS Please

I had the FRPP one installed by the dealer on my '08. It rattled alot and I was constantly having to tighten it (until I used thread lock). It did shift nice but that advantage was outweighed by how loud it was. I'm kind of leery to do it again but if I do it will definitely not be the FRPP (Hurst) version.

I love my Hurst, but if I had it to do over again, I'd get the MGW based on the reviews I've read. On a stock Mustang, it would be the first mod for me!

I had a Pro 5.0 on my 06 because the stock shifter sucked. I actually like the feel of the 10 shifter, not high up on the priority mod list yet. I would look at MGW if I were in the market. Great reviews on the 05-09, not sure if they have a 10 version yet, heard there are a few minor changes.

This is like asking if you prefer redheads, brunettes or blondes.

I like 'em all . As for shifters? I'm partial to Hurst. I've had mine for 2 years and never had any negative issues with NVH, "tightness" or performance. Great bang for the buck, IMO. But, anything is an improvement over stock. You may also consider Pro50 or MGW.

Do they all have that "notchy" feel? I was at my local Ford dealer and they had some stangs with the Hurst shifter and I thought they felt rough. This is coming from someone who has never actually tried one.

Is the Hurst shifter as tall as the Roush one? I heard somewhere that the Roush shifter is a full 3" taller than the stock shifter.

The Roush was so high it felt strange to me. For a daily driver, I might find myself grabbing below the ball so I could rest my arm on the center console.

If I could put it into one word, I'd call it "slotty". You need to try it out.

The pic should give you an idea, Not quite as tall, but taller than factory. I like the added height.

You can also go with the Saleen piece. It's a kit that modifies the stock unit...http://www.saleen.com/SC101_Services...php?menuId=120

Has anyone with a 2010 tried any aftermarket shifters? I am seeing a lot of 05-09 opinions, but none for the 2010. I noticed a different feel of the stock shifter for 2010. I also heard that there are differences in the 05-09 and 2010, so the aftermarket shifters may be different between years.

The 2010 has the '08 Bullitt shifter.

All the aftermarket companies that I have seen have a new part number (should indicate a different design) for 2010 shifters. The Bullitt **** comes with the upgraded interior, and I am pretty sure that it is just the ****, not the same shifter assembly. I have the regular interior, and mine came with the same **** as was in the 06, only they did redesign the shifter boot, it no longer attaches to the **** itself, there is a plastic cup that the boot connects to and the **** sits inside, kinda neat.
I had heard that Ford tweaked the shifters after the 06 MY, maybe 07-08, and that they felt better especially the infamous 3rd gear lock-out.
I am pretty sure that Steeda talked about shifters in a thread before the hack/crash and they said they had to change some stuff for 2010.

The "tall" billet arm for the Roush shifter is an option. I have the Roush shifter in my 2010 with the standard arm and black Roush ball and love it. It's the same height as the factory shifter.

I like the look of the billet arm, just not that tall.
