Shocks/Strut install

Guys I have always done my own. I have always jacked the car up, put it on stands, and used a floor jack to lower the a arm slowly to decompress the the springs. How many of u have done there own on an 11/12 and is there any tips u could give.

Thanks

I just did my own, I used the latemodelrestoration site as a how to. Very informative, I also live in NJ in case you need a hand. I didn't use a spring compressor either, I used the jack under the control arm method.

Cool thanks for the response. Like I said I have always used this way. So u didn't have to do anything special for the install. I assume the backs are pretty easy right? Thanks again.

The backs took 45 minutes combined. The hardest part was jacking up the car, fronts took me about 3 hours to do. I took my time, and was careful.

Yes, very easy install. The current car uses more of a coil over arrangement for the front so you will need a spring compressor to remove them properly - If you have an auto parts store that rents tools I'd reccomend the spring compressor kit and an electric or pnematic impact. The rest can be done with hand tools and a torque wrench plus some loc-tite.

Be extremely careful tightening the 4 nuts on the top of the strut mounts. They break extremely easy. Make sure you just snug them and not overtighten because eventually they will break. I had go redo both sides within a few hundred miles due to the studs breaking on brand new gt500 mounts.

I believe it's like 20-22lbs. I'd set your wrench to the low side. I used 2 different torque wrenches and still had an issue with the studs breaking. Very delicate. Does anyone know if the steed mounts have stronger studs. I have a strut bar do that's additional stress.

I looked it up 26lbs is the torque. Again if you search even then the bolt may break. I'd set the wrench a bit lower.

Well I guess I'll be loosening them up and retorquing them down to 22lbs then. Good heads up!
