Shifter **** question

Hello all,

I just ordered the black boss 302 shifter for my V6. Do I need a boot retainer too?

Here's what I ordered: http://www.cjponyparts.com/FORD-SHIF...2012/p/MSK115/

That looks like it is made for the boot with the small top like the one on the optional metal **** that used to come on some premiums.

So, you would probably need the boss boot to go with that ****.

There is a note in the ad that says it requires a different boot.

I actually got the shifter in the mall today! I put it on, but it has a small gap in between the shifter and the boot. Is the best fix a retainer or the boot that Ltngdrvr suggested?

Thanks!

Solution

You just need a plastic shift grommet for this, no need to replace the entire boot. Drop an email to the guys at MGW, they include the exact part you need with their shifter kit. Maybe it's karma letting you know you should install their shifter? I just put one in my Boss, and I LOVE IT!

So if you can ask the guys at MGW if they would sell you the part you need, I'm sure it would way way cheaper than buying the Boss shift boot. I just installed my MGW Saturday and love it!

As you can see, the Boss shift boot is already narrower to fit the Boss style **** and trim shaft;

I replaced the shift **** in my '13 GT/CS with the Boss part and, as you've found out, it required a different shift boot.

It was an easy install and well worth it.
