Why should we be excited about this? So dealerships still think they can mark up crap just because of the name...This is just great the top model mustang is going to stay $3000 more for the sole reason of being a Shelby. Give me a **** Cobra again.

Hopefully those that thought it was a short run will realize its not and the markups WILL eventually go away.

Your not going to consistantly have that many customers for a mustang that expensive for 6 years....and pay markups

Remember the 1st time around on Shelby Mustangs sales tanked so badly in the 5th year that the 1970 Shelby's were leftover 1969s with new S/Ns.

I'm kinda bummed out by this news. Yeah cool bring back the GT500 as a limited SE like the Mach1 but c'mon the SVT Cobra had a 10 year heritage of it's own. I say make a flagship super Mustang in the $70,000 range call it the Shelby (since Ford realizes that there is a market for such an expensive Mustang) while the current mid $40,000 GT500 once again becomes the SVT Cobra and stays where it's at so that the average middle class man can afford to own one someday.

Think about it: What sense would it have made for Shelby to go to all the trouble and expense of setting up shop and going into business based upon a deal with Ford that only lasted three years?

Answer: None.

This arrangement will go on for as long as it is profitable for both parties. As far as Shelby is concerned, the longer, the better, I'm sure.

I don't like this. Ford should have cut ties to Shelby. All he adds is cost to the vehicles. He adds no engineering relevance these days.

I dont think Shelby had any engineering relavance past 1967. However despite the various schemes and flops Shelby has been invovled with since his halcyon days in the 60's his name has remained legendary to a broader audience.

I know my disillusionment really occurred when DC started turning out Shelby everything beyond the GLHS and was pretty much complete when the Series 1 became stillborn. Now its just a name denoting the top flight Mustang. The could have called it the Gigglesnort 5000 and it would have had the same relavance to me.

Then there is the Shelby GT which essentially raids the FR parts bin and does nothing to address the minor tweaks nessecary to get the most out of using that suspension.

I agree. To me Hau Thai-Tang, John Coletti, and Jack Roush are the recent-current Mustang developers I admire. As much as I respect and appreciate what Carroll has done recently for children through his charities, I think he has more input on chili than Mustangs these days.

Do you guys think the next GT500 will be much different in the power department? When you think about it the GT500 is still a fairly new car since it did not come to market until halfway through the current car's life cycle. Maybe it's just me but i'm guessing outside of the new looks perhaps a better suspension and maybe a 20-30HP bump........ something along the lines of the 98 to 99 Cobra transition I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the next GT500 will have an IRS to compete with the Challenger and Camaro.

Also, do you think that Ford will offer the 10' GT500 right at launch to try to keep up with the top model Chevys and Dodges or delay the car like Cobras of the past.

I doubt they'll delay it, certainly not by much, if at all - Shelby Automotive needs to stay in business. They can't afford that kind of production downtime.

Say what?

Shelby has NOTHING to do with the GT-500. They are made at AAI on the same line as Mustangs and Mazda 6s. Shelby Automotive never touches them.

Maybe you're thinking of the Shelby GT.
