I read somewhere that D/I is supposed to be in the 3.5L thats supposed to be going in the v-6. I was told by a ford enigineer in their f150 truck facility that the next version will get a twin force design. The mustang won't be far behind in some form. I was also told by one of the vp's of marketing there would be a 5.0 in the boss that is coming. The motor he was talking about was the 7.0 liter motor. But I don't know how much sense it would make to produce a larger displacement mod motor. This is fords chance to get out of the expense. They had to do ohv designs to make the power they needed from small displacemetn motors. I do think the mustang will eventually get a n/a 5.4 two valve.

We will see.

The 7L ... /shakes magic 8ball/ "Keep Dreaming"
The 5L ... /shakes magic 8ball/ "Not Boss enough or ready enough for 2009"
The 3.5L../shakes magic 8ball/ "Lookin good"
A 5.4L ... /shakes magic 8ball/ "Lookin good boss"

The thing that scares me is... the BOSS engines weren't going to be in the stang till 2011 anyway... if theres a new 2012 or 2013.. whats ford goign to do in the meantime? or are they going to fastrack those engines....
and is the 2010 going to be JUST a reskin with the same old engines and a 5.4?
The 4.0/4.6/5.4 aren't going to last forever, and I doubt we'll see them much past 2012 (earlier for the v6) especially with the 3.5/3.7 with or with or without TwinForce... and the possible 5.0 + boss engines.

Fords engine lineup is looking great... but it needs to be sooner than later.

That would make since. Boss 331

I have to disagree.

The name "LX 5.0" stirs up plenty of images of understated V8 mustang coupes tearing it up for a great many mustang afficionados.

I'm perfectly content with the LX designation

The thing that scares me is $88 / barrel for crude oil, headed for >$100 / barrel.

I agree, that the 4.6L mod motor will get replaced by V6 engines in the next few years. The 3.7L NA with DI should be capable of >300 HP while getting 25% better gas milage than the current 4.6L 3V.

Well when the next gen Mustang comes out in 2009, it will have the 3.5 or 3.7L engine in it at least. I'd say that the TF version of the 3.5 or 3.7 is a very good possibilty for that year also. I'm not sure what they are going to do about the GT and V8...

As for fast tracking engines...Ford was supposed to come out with a 3L PIP (product improvement power) that put out 240HP in the Fusion and Escape next year...I know what your saying...why with the 3.5L engine (which is the same size physically) already putting out 265 HP? Well someone wised up and the 3L is going away with no PIP and all cars with it currently now will get the 3.5 in it! So there is hope that the Boss/Hurricane will come out quicker then 2011 in the Mustang, I'd say that an late 2009 Intro is very doable in for the Mustang...

My gut is telling me that we will continue to see the same ol' V8's(4.6L,5.4L) in the 2010 Mustang. I do think that there will be increased H.P. though.
I expect the new engines to be in the 2012MY or 2013MY. I doubt we see a TTV8 in the Mustang GT. But, it will/should be GDI(340hp-400hp). Which is just fine with me!

There's gotta be a contigent of Mustang maniacs that swear by the 5.0 liter Fox bodies and pre '96 SN95's that would be all over this like a pig on mud if it's true. :)

Boomer 10/25/07 05:48 AM

Oh for sure.
BUT most people still think it RUNS the 5.0!

I can't count how many times anyones asked if I have a 302 or 5litre

I would like to see a 5 L version of the current modular engine if they don't do one based off the new engine design for a few more years. And having forged rods and pistons in a special edition (Boss 302 or Mach 1) would be nice too.

I agree. I owned two LX 5.0 Mustangs and I wish they'd bring it back, if not in name then at least in spirit.

Boomer,

Did you mean an actual 5.0 block or 5.x block on your previous post?

Which post?
WRT to the 5.0?
BOSS edition Mustang? or BOSS motor?

Basically if the BOSS comes out as a 2009 Mustang SE (we'll see something from the sounds of it at NAIAS in Jan) it won't have a 5.0L but will probably have the 5.4L

But now from the sounds of it the 5.0L/302 engine will be labelled a BOSS 302 engine. (to be in the 2010+Mustang (2010 or 11)

Ford is just having a hayday changing things around :)

I don't mean any disrespect for the Fox 5Ls. The spirit is great and I welcome the return of the 5L. My problem is that the intervening 20 years have not been kind to the LX tag, and in the minds of most people who haven't had a Fox LX that tag is associated with Land Yachts and not Pony Cars.

By all means, embrace the spirit of the 5L 'Stangs. Just bloody call them something else.

if that's the case, instead of LX, what about re-using the GTS moniker?

That I highly support. Base, GT, GTS, thats a hell of a lineup.

Moosetang 10/30/07 11:44 PM

BTW Blue II's been all over the BOSS thread at BON saying the 5L is NOT OHV and the 777 IS SOHC. He's quite assertive that there are noe OHV engines in development currently. So take that as you will.
