Funny thing is I see a lot of female Prius and Volvo (and minivans for that matter) drivers flying by me on the highway, much faster than the prevailing traffic (I typically like to stay near everyone else's speed except the occasional play time - I don't need a stinkin' ticket). I can't think of anything less safe than a Prius doing over 80 mph or Volvo over 80 mph when the driver is distracted by applying makeup or tending to the munchkins in the back seat.

What bothers me is the ignorance in her original article and the follow-up replies she made to people's rebuttals. Her reference to the 2nd amendment to defend her "free speech" (1st amendment), unless she meant that she would defend her free speech with a gun (2nd amendment) - not likely as Libs do NOT endorse the 2nd amendment - is particularly disturbing. Not so much that she's that ignorant, but that she can be that ignorant AND BE PAID FOR IT!

The Chicago Tribune has the real responsibility here, IMO, for publishing such obvious drivel in the first place! Yes, she has a right to her opinion, and even to express it - on her own dime. But the media has the responsibility to publish factually accurate and complete information, not short-sighted, heavily politically biased opinion pieces that masquerade as truth.

But the media bailed on truth and accuracy decades ago, to the detriment of the American people...

I thought I was going to have to remind you that you were talking about the Chicago Tribune, then you nailed it with your very last sentence...

This kind of tells me that the people in Chicago aren't very bright. They make politicians like Barack Obama and they like to cancel Mustangs. Sounds like the lion's den of liberalism to me

I absolutely agree.... I'm sure she will get enough of that from the Ford assembly workers and community at Flat Rock!.....

Another nail on the head. Threats, in any form, simply feed these kind of people. The only way to make any real impression on them - and it's still a long shot, at best - is to present factual data in a rational, non-threatening manner. The only thing that really defeats them is rational thought...

Yeah, they tend to have a really good grip on these issues...

Probably a fugly Prius driver.

Edit by Brad: She's not a reporter. She's just a citizen who expresses her concern in writing to the Chicago Tribune, who then publishes it in their Opinion section.

You can write her a letter at

Just FYI, she's not in Chicago; she's in Carlsbad, CA. She's a free-lancer that submits stuff on a whim, not staff.

Doesn't excuse her or let the Trib off the hook by any means, though...

I almost feel a little bad for her and her lack of education in the mustang field. Maybe we can have Arin and Pete go practice on their foreign policy skills and drop off a mustang gift basket.
