To Replace Or Not Replace

This past Friday, I totally ,missed a section of curbing that stuck out. and curbed my new wheel and tire. Most of the guys here at work, say no big deal, just live with it, you will have more things like this happen. I on the other hand think, this is my new car, and I can't have that on one of my wheels. What would some of you guyd do, replace the wheel, or just live with it?

Bummer. But I would say live with it. At some point, we all will be experiencing that first dent or ding that will annoy the heck out of us, but won't be worth repairing. In your case, it's a relatively "harmless" one that's not very visible. I suspect you could do a quick cosmetic fix on your own that will make it less apparent.

I'm going to go out on a limb with this one. If it was mine, I'd check to see if the dealer has touch-up paint to match the (nickel painted) wheels. If so, maybe some deburring and painting might do the trick. Pretty risky though.

These can be repaired, not just replaced. There are shops that specialize in repairing aluminum rims that have curb rash.

Check it out. My best friend nailed a curb with his Mercedes and really screwup up the rims. When fixed, you couldn't even tell.

Two of my polished aluminum wheels had some pretty good scratches on them. The car sat on the lot for nearly a year, so I think they might've replaced them if I'd mentioned it... but I figured sooner or later they'll get scratched anyway... so I let it go. Yours looks much worse, but I think I'd live with it vs buying a new wheel. OTOH, that would make a fine full-sized spare.

I did. For another car. Repair was as much as a new wheel. Basically around $200-$300 depending on the wheel.

I'd skip it. You'll scratch it again. Are you going to fix it every time?

Personally. I would replace the wheel. Only because i'm very **** about that sort of stuff.

Then i'd keep the damaged wheel as an extra in case you really mess up a rim a few years down the road.

Annoying, but minor enough that I wouldn't replace it.

Careful smoothing with a dremel tool and some Wurth silver wheel paint will make it almost disappear..

ha..i am in the same boat, when it first happened. I flipped out, pissed off, angry, upset and was looking at prices and everything, over $400 for one of the 19 inch bright machined aluminum, so I am going to have the body shop guy look at it next time I am in to see if it can be done.

Im still thinking will get a set of the forums when someone changes theirs out. I hate it everyday, and noticed it big time, but also, all my friends with Cobra's and other Mustangs say, save your money for now, try to get it repaired and get new wheels when you have to, but its minor. I drive the vehicle all the time, and never hit curbs, but with this I did and wanted to breakdown, lol..so getting a new wheel and something happening like that again would kill me if I paid full price.

I found this link. http://www.bullittarchive.com/1012.htm

Did a little bit of the sandpaper and sprayed on the wheels, looks better than it did, but I didnt do as much as this guy did. Mine were a lot deeper than his and yours on my right front wheel.

When the car is in for oil change, will ask body shop guy to take a look at it.

It will give you a good excuse to start looking for new rims and tire set up

I've never curbed a wheel. However, my better half was driving my truck (after not driving it for a LONG time) and rashed it about the same amount in a drive through.

Couldn't stand to look at it, but couldn't find another 20 inch wheel for a reasonable price. So I sanded the hell out of it, and painted it. Looked ALMOST perfect.

Personally, I don't agree with the "it will happen again" mentality in this particular case. In almost all circumstances, curbing wheels is avoidable. We're not talking about normal wear and tear, like rock chips in a front fascia. So, I'd fix it somehow.

The thing is, I have never curbed a wheel on any Mustang I have had previiously. I don;t know if it's the size of the car or that it seems to turn in quicker than anything else I have had. I got pretty angry right after it happened also, I to checked on the price of a new wheel, $641.00 from Ford! I ended up finding a complete set with tires on E-Bay and bought them for $780.00. I will replace the damaged wheel, keep the tires to replace mine with later, and then sell the rims possibly as a set pointing out the blemish or individually. A set of the Pirellis' installed would run between $750.00 and $800.00, so maybe I want come out to bad. I pprobably should have cooled down before deciding what to do though.

Pick up 2 19x10 replicas from American Muscle. Put your best 2 on the front. Save it as a full-size spare. Enjoy.

I am in the same boat. I never curbed a vehicle before this one, and it was my first time ever with the Mustang parking on the street. In my head I was like, I never park on the street with this car, and boom, hit it..

I didnt enjoy life for like two days before calming down.

If the body guys cant do anything decent, I will go the same way, looking on eBay, forums, and get a new set.

Replace?!? No way... Any Custom's shop can make it blend and go away.
I paid $100 for about a 3" rash.
