RED Steering wheel...

Guys,

When I bought my Car in June last year, as most of you know, they were VERY hard to come by, and I pretty much got Everything I wanted in a Premium GT with the 401A, BUT, the Black interior would look SOO much better with the Red Steering wheel cover, instead of the Black, Sooo, with all the Electronics in there, what would it cost me to get this Steering Wheel Swapped out???

I think I've seen the steering wheel go for about 400 dollars. Then you could sell your current steering wheel and recoup some if not all of the money.

If I were to switch I'd get the GT500 one.
Not sure how the badge would work out- snake vs the GT pony. Just to keep things concurrent. Should be able to take the one off the stock piece I'd imagine?

Since the gt500 steering wheel doesn't include the airbag, you would reuse the stock one with the pony on it.

Anyone know how hard it is to swap steering wheels? I've thought about going after a GT500 wheel, but don't really know if I want to tackle the swap itself.

Yea, thats the EZ Part, what about all the Electronics in the Wheel, and Swapping all THEM out, look like an 8 hr+ Labor job!!

I don't think it would be all that difficult?

I'd imagine it's very similar to an 05-09 swap...

I didn't think it was difficult, that seems to confirm it.

OP, you might find someone with the red interior who wants to swap for a black wheel. I personally think it's a bit much for the car.

I read it wrong I thought you had the brick interior and wanted a black wheel...

In any case I came across this a while ago it has red accents?

These guys, Well respected in the Vette community, are now doing Mustang wheels. Not shown on their website, but can likely do a re-cover of your wheel in the colors you want for less than a full replacement...

They are also now offering a Mustang wheel on Ebay, so you might want to check there. Their quality of work is outstanding.

Ummmmm...You might try reading a little closer....I just listed that link as a reference to his company. That's a modified corvette wheel and $250 of that is for the core. As I recall, his Ford wheels with custom leather and thumb bumps were about $500

I would love to find a smaller wheel, I feel like the mustang's is HUGE! But this is coming from an S2000 which was very small and sporty feeling... But the thing is I dont want to lose all the audio controls etc... Anyone know of any options out there?

They aren't showing any number for the red steering wheel that I see ...
so It looks like you need to call a Ford Parts place to get the Red Brick steering wheel part ##'s ..

why don;t you just go to an auto interior house and have them re-wrap your wheel with red leather? or is the wheel you want a different shape?

The two tone wheels are Grants wheels (www.GrantProducts.com). If you go to the site I believe they provide the instructions for removal and installation of the new wheel, which should work for any wheel you choose. Hope this helps.

The wheels have soft plastic "plugs" at 9 and 3 o'clock for the holes needed to access the air bag bolts. They are just pushed in. So pull them out anyway you can. You may have to stick something under one edge to get some leverage for removal.

This is definitely the way to go... Even a local upholsterer could do it. No steering wheel is worth all the money they are asking for new.
