Recaro seats: does the shell dig into your thighs?
Recaro seats: does the shell dig into your thighs?
Everyone raves about the Recaro seats... so I just assumed that I'd have them in a 2013 GT.
But when I sat in one in a 2012 GT500... well... the "shell" sorta dug into my mid-thigh in a way that I didn't thin would be very comfortable.
Anyone else?
Any chance that the 2013 seats are any different?
p.s. I'm 6', 230 lbs... and I guess I have a "wide stance"

I've sat in the Recaros in both the GT500 and Boss 302, both 2012...when I'm at my Ford dealer I can't resist being a kid again! That being said, I'm short and light (5'6", 155 lbs). And being small, even I did not like the comfort of the Recaros. I loved how they look and hold you in place, and they are probably great for the track. But if you're gonna use your Mustang for long fun rides, and have a passenger at times, IMO I would not recommend the Recaros. There are two options for gorgeous comfortable leather seats with the Premium Package in the GT...why don't you check those out and compare?
Thanks for the feedback. Perhaps you're right, Tiger... but even if I were 180 I still wonder if I would feel that sorta-sharp front edge of the shell beneath the leather with my leg.
It's a shame, because the Recaros are certainly cool.... and I find the GT Premium seats to have too little side bolstering. :/

I'm in the same boat, Recaro's don't fit me either w/o the thigh dig at my current 6'1" 250 lbs. I suspect that if I got at or below 200 lbs, they would fit again like I remember.
In other words, Recaro's are not made for American fatty's.

That's due to the full leather seating surface most people have. The cloth seats didn't have this problem on my 2011 base GT, the cloth seats will hold you in place 100% better. This is why on more expensive cars they have an option for an Alcantra seating and back surface on the otherwise leather/leatherette covered seat.

5-8" 160lbs and seats fit me perfectly, like a baseball in a baseball glove. The thing is:
if your average height and in good weight condition for your hight, the seats will \ should fit you without issue, but many will fit in the area called overweight, call it simply "fat". I suggest for those people to go and find a mustang and try out the recaros before getting them.

Yeah impossible to get good lateral support for mass market with all different shapes & sizes. If they dont fit, save the cash & get the leather upgrade &/or aftermarket seats. Good point that the leathers are probably tighter than cloth, though I think Ill be alright at 5'10"/180# either way. Thinking of getting summer/track seats but must try them first before dropping that kinda cash. Going to email my dealer now to give me a holler when he gets a Recaro car in so I can rub my **** in it for a quick minute. lol

From what the tall guys are saying if ur over 230lbs it doesn't fit u well
My .02
6'4" 300lbs and I have logged several long trips (900 mile days). The seat is snug for sure and the left bolster bothered me at first, but I don't even notice it now. Probably not an issue because the car is so Da-- much fun to drive.
