Maybe it is, maybe not, don't know anything about a m3.
Porcshe has a engine sound transmitting device on the new 911 Turbo too.
It really just amazes me how harsh some peoples feelings are about such a simple deal like this.
I like the sound it pipes in and so do a lot of others although they may be afraid to admit it for fear of all the ridicule they hear over it.

I left mine alone. I'll test out taking out one of the baffles. You might have just saved me $500.

Way over-priced bastards, that's for sure.
All exhausts systems are any more, especially axle-backs, are over-priced.
Two mufflers, two tips and some short pipes and hangars and the average price for them is what, like $500-$550???
Jeez, I can still remember when you could get duals put on your car from the manifolds back, custom bent pipes, mufflers, the works, for about $120!

For what you get?
Doggone right it is.
But people pay it, but not me, not if I can help it.
I could have bought my axle-backs at the first place I looked but I shopped it around until I found a much better price and saved $55 by doing so. Got my Outlaws for $344 shipped. Even that seems high priced to me though.

Sound doesn't travel in only one direction from a source; just like you can hear a flute while standing on the opposite side of the person playing it from the instrument, the sound of combustion carries through the intake as well. Explosions aren't exactly quiet.
If the person likes the sound of their engine and the sound tube provides that, why does it get on others' nerves? Seems to me it's more cost-effective than changing out the axle-backs simply to hear a different or louder exhaust note. That's pretty expensive for a one-note instrument. The sound tube--at least for some--accomplishes this with no expense on the part of the owner.

I agree. I removed the firewall end baffle this morning and it sounded a little better in city traffic. I drove out into the county and let my best friend take her for a spin. When he hammered it from 1st gear through 3rd, the sound tube made a heck of a difference and also enhanced the experience, while I was being slammed hard into the passenger seatback.
I loved it.

Heck, gas back then was like fifty some cents a gallon and unleaded gas was a novelty that we all laughed at!

I think the thing about the sound tube that turns a lot of people off is how prominent Ford made it due to its routing. I have a sound tube in the BMW Z4 that is being traded in on my GT, and you can hardly see it (btw, removing the two foam pieces in that tube makes a very nice sound).
As to "all natural" and "not being the engine sound," I have to wonder what kind of sound people think is coming through that tube if not engine noise? Its not like Ford put a speaker in there with a sound track or anything. Most people who drive sports cars want to hear the engine revving- the reason for the tube is Ford made the sound insulation on the firewall so efficient even the noise generated by the 5.0 is lost to the driver. Personally, if I wanted to drive a car where I can't hear the engine, I'd buy a Buick.
All that said, my Cool Tech delete kit arrived in the mail today, and I plan to use the $500 added to the '14 cash back towards the Roush axle back exhaust. The day I pick her up the foam will come out, and the day I add the Roush exhaust the tube will come out.
