Question: How many jobs per hour for 2011 Mustang line?

See the title. Would someone please tell me how many jobs per hour the Mustang line is running? I did a rough tally for 6000 units per month / 20 shifts per month / 8 hours per shift and came up with 19 jobs per hour. That seems very slow to me, but my only reference is the Econoline, which ran at 60 jobs per hour circa 2000.

If any line workers want to pipe up, I'd appreciate it.

From the information in an article about the upcoming shift layoff at AAI, I estimate that the total jobs per hour is currently 40. This includes both Mazda 6 and Mustang. In your calculation, did you account for Easter and the volcano-induced shutdown?

No, I didn't account for that. It's hard to believe that we don't have at least a few guys or gals on here that work at AAI.

So, I'd guess-timate Mazda 6 sales to be no more than 10 jobs per hour, perhaps less. I hardly ever see a current generation 6 on the road. Maybe they are all fleet sales?

So, I know #8514 was built on 4/15.
I'm #21644, that a difference of 13130.
Divided by (30 jobs per hour * 8 hours * 2 shifts = 480) = 27 working days from 4/15. That's roughly 1.5 months. So I should expect my car to be built somewhere in the first half of June. Tack on another couple weeks for delivery and I'm looking at July 4th.

I think the 800 number would best be able to tell you that. If you have your blend number, I assume you have your VIN? The people at the 800 number are super nice, just give em a ring.

They really are nice. I'm hoping mine will get a build date this process date. Actually, based on what you ordered, I wouldn't be too surprised if both of our cars share the same assembly line at some point. My VIN is literally just 5 after yours and we share most of the same options: GT Prems with 401A and 3.73 axles. Makes sense to me anyway.

You should also remember that the cars aren't built in VIN order. The build dates can vary by up to one or two weeks between consecutive numbers.

Now that is something I did not know. I thought all vins were built in order!

No, but I'm sure to hit the button five million times a day like a junkie lab rat until I see it. Right now, my order is still in "sub to plant" status.

I found this just posted at blueovalforums:

Current production rate is 50 cars per hour, for a total of 960 cars per day on a four day work week. This is with the current two shifts, and combines Mustang and Mazda 6 production.

Shortly the plant will switch to a single shift. The new rate will be between 64 and 68 cars per hour. That will put production at 640-680 cars per day, still on a four day work week.

It appears that Ford will be keeping 300 more workers than they had initially planned. (1700 instead of 1400) I guess that means Mustang sales are going better than planned!
