Question about the lower black pieces.

Is that plastic, or is it the same material as the body? If it's the same material the body, we might be able to paint it.

I'm sure it's plastic. But so is the current bumper, and your 2000....which obviously can be painted also.

if its the same plastic as on the 2001-2006 escapes then forget about painting them. when they mold them, they have a silicone based separater in them so they will come out of the mold easily, and with the silicone in them forget about paint sticking to them. and if you are thinking about sanding then painting, the mold itself has the silicone in it, so it will leach out over time, which will peel your paint right off. bad idea from ford if that is the case...

Thought there was a way around that by prepping it with something first....

I'm sure that if so motivated someone will figure out a way to color the pieces.

I'm sure someone will figure out a way to paint them. If not, we always have the aftermarket, so I'm not too worried about it. If it's like you said, SINBUSTER, and it's a silicon base, it's a big mistake by Ford. Making us spend money to correct their mistakes seems to be common practice for automotive companies though...

BTW, I sold the 2000 about a year ago now, only have the 07 Black GT now. Just too lazy to change my pic.

if anyone has a V6 and painted their lower side skirts, that should be the same thing. we need to find out from them if they had any trouble with paint. i wanted to paint the ones on my escape and did some investigation before, went to two different paint shops and they told me the same thing about the mold. it wouldnt be a problem if it was just on the forms, but when they mix it thru the mold, you cannot get rid of it. they said that ford told them it was to keep it cleaner and looking nicer longer...yea right

Shouldn't it be the same stuff they put on the GT500? If so, I may ask my boss about it.

Of course, he's also the guy who uses Windex as a CAR POLISH. Maybe I won't bother.

Hey guys, I'm pretty sure the black part of the bumpers is the same that is on the GT/CS and GT500 lower parts, that aren't painted. A little pre-work, and they can be painted and no problems.

If it can't be painted, could your wrap it with vinyl?
