Q: How to track your VIN with Customer Service?
#21
Many times the tracking (VV or what have you) lists the location of "where it was last seen". Which means that by train, where the railcar itself is tracked, the updates can be quite often.
With a truck, however, the "last seen" can be the ramp where it was physically loaded on the truck and not be updated again because there is a lag between when the dealer reports receipt and the update in VV.

Thanks for the insight, Caledd and sparky. I actually feel a bit better. in retrospect I should never have taken their word for it and signed my life away. At the time I just wanted to make sure I didn't lose my cupon but I didn't think kf the risks... Like if it falls off the truck or has some non warranty-covered pronlem (like a paint flaw?) it's already my car and my responsibility.
Csledd, my car is on its way to western Mass. I wonder what the odds are that we're waiting for the exact same truck.

Well... customer service continues to insist that it's on a train.
My dealership continues to insist that they can't track it because it's on a truck.
My loan continues to accumulate interest...my brow continues to furrow.
Fortunately, I have really enjoyed my 4cyl 2010 Fusion loaner car...I groaned when I saw what they were giving me for a loaner... but 1,200 miles later, I love this car. It's smooth, comfortable, good looking and very light on gas. I get 35+ mpg highway.

This continues to become ever more infuriating.
The dealership said that they had their rep track the car...and it turns out that their story about the truck was false (though he didn't say what the origin of that component was...but someone was either talking out of their butt or lying and I want to know who).
So according to the newest story from the Ford rep it did go by rail...and as of Tuesday, it was *supposedly* at a distribution yard of some kind, about 1.5 hours north of the dealership, and they were assured that it would be put on a truck "immediately." Two days later...nothing. The delership has yet to return my call from yesterday afternoon asking if I needed to change my insurance over yet so the car could be registered.
So what's the verdict? Are they liars or merely incompetent?
I don't even care so much if it will be a while longer... but is wanting to know where your $32,000 purchase is too much to ask? How can they not know?!?
If anyone is contemplating buying a car in the Western Mass. area, drop me a PM and I'll let you know where NOT to buy it.

It may not be completely your dealers fault. I have an incoming sold unit for a customer that hasn't had a status update since 07/26. It still says that the eta is 08/07.

When the car gets here, I'll probably forget it all.

My dealer eventually admitted I knew more than he did. Even when he called to tell me my car was at the final ramp for transfer from train to truck, I knew it already. He was shocked.
Ordering and tracking cars just isn't something sales people do at dealerships (with a few obvious exceptions). Sales people, who are often quite transient at the dealerships, just want to sell cars. Most of the time they don't even care or know much about the product -- only the process to make the sale.

If it does get shipped on a truck it will show "shipped convoy" I pretty much found that this doesn't mean it's actually left, it may just mean its scheduled. This showed up on my status on Thursday but wasn't loaded on the truck until Saturday and then it left on Monday.

Did you finally get your car? Your story sounds eerily similar to mine, where nobody seems to have a clue where my car is. The dealer has promised delivery dates multiple times that have come and gone. It's gonna be real nice buying a convertible in November, which at this rate, is when I expect it to finally show up.
