Q: How to track your VIN with Customer Service?

Hey, fellows-

Would anyone be so kind to point me in the right direction for tracking my Kona Blue muscle machine as it catapults its way off Ramp 51 (or wherever it is)?

I just spent some time on www.fordvehicles.com and didn't find any helpful links...

Thanks for any advice!

You'll need to either call your dealer or call customer service at 800-392-3673 with your VIN. Press x1, x4, x1, x2 after calling the 800 number to get to the right department.

My dealer appears to have not put my name on the car I ordered. Would I still be able to call and track by VIN?

Mine's scheduled for July 9th. I was hoping to get it this week so I could have it on my birthday Sunday, but getting it the week after will suffice.

Call Ford and tell them that it's your birthday and what are they going to do about it.

ughh. I called Ford CS and they told me my ETA was last tuesday, yet the car is still "awaiting shipment".

My dealer told me 4 days ago that it is "in transit" and "should be here at any moment".

What I gather is, that no one knows where my car is and I shouldn't hold my breath.

"In transit" is what shows up if your car gets returned to the plant as well.

My car is still "in production" with a scheduled delivery date of Monday.

Haha.. my car is somewhere in purgatory right now.

The status hasn't changed...Customer Service has no update to the status as "In Production, July 12th delivery"

The dealership has absolutely no clue said it could be as long as a month...

The opacity of this process is maddening. Is this kind of BS normal?

Yes, this is perfectly normal for Ford. No, it's not good customer service.

Ugh...thanks.
I guess a lot of you guys have been through this.

It's even more frustrating that my dealership knows nothing, can't get any information whatsoever, and yet have shiny new "retail" '11 Mustangs rolling off the truck daily.

Okay... so how about this bullcrap?

Car originally ordered: 5/14
I made a change (added Brembos) but dealer couldn't confirm that the changes went through for two weeks+ so they reordered the car end of May.

First delivery date: 7/6
no show

second delivery date 7/12:
nothing, still "in production" accoding to Ford CS

After two more weeks with no change to this delivery date (now in the past!) I demanded (har har) that they tell me where my car was, I spoke with a manager (politely) who supposedly escillated my request for the location of the car, no calls back.

Called on my own a couple days later, 7/30 delivery date...with "in-transit" status. The dealership was highly confident in this date, I was hot to get rid of my 2009 before something bad happened to it in a parking lot (or something), signed the paperwork, bought the 2011 that was "arriving any minute."

days pass, no word. All the while, I had been calling the stealership who has seemed increasingly nonplussed about the deal we made back in May and apparently doesn't care about losing my business, may or may not return my calls, etc.

They are under the impression that this car is being transported in an unusual way because of their shipping difficulties and can't be tracked (because it's coming directly on a truck rather than a rail car )

Called Ford CS again on Monday, they gave me an 8/12 delivery date
Told this to the dealership who knows NOTHING, insisted that the date's probably wrong, car could show up any second. I was pretty fired up, especially now that I OWN this car...I let them know how pissed I was, wish I had kept my cool.

Called Ford CS again yesterday, the delivery date is gone, just showing "in transit." TFW?!? !

So now what do I do? How long do I wait before I report it stolen?

I'd appreciate any advice or insight... I'm at a total loss.

Ford CS told me yesterday my car was also "in transit" but I didn't have an ETA listed either. I called my dealership and they said it shows in transit but it's still in MI with an ETA of 8/7 but they told me that ETA isn't right.

Honestly.. we've seen people who's status updates were showing the car still in MI and their cars show up, but yeah who knows if that's the case or not. I would have NEVER done the paper work until I saw and drove the car though.

Many times the tracking (VV or what have you) lists the location of "where it was last seen". Which means that by train, where the railcar itself is tracked, the updates can be quite often.

With a truck, however, the "last seen" can be the ramp where it was physically loaded on the truck and not be updated again because there is a lag between when the dealer reports receipt and the update in VV.
