Purchasing a 5.0 out of state question...
Long story short, I'm looking into MS and TX for a deal on a 5.0. The problem is, I've heard that if I buy a car out of state I have to pay taxes on the car in the purchasing state as well as in Louisiana when I return home to register the car.
I know some here have purchased from out of state (mostly from Jeff) and I'm curious whether anyone can shed light on the validity of this.
Thanks!

Most any time you buy a car out of state and then register it in your state, your state will take into account any sales tax that may have been paid in the state the car was purchased from and apply it to your tax owed so you won't pay any more than you would have had you bought it in your own state.
Personally, when I bought my Lightning from out of state they didn't charge me any tax in that state, then I just paid it here when I registered it here.

i have purchased all my cars out of state. now seeing that PA is right next to MD they do very well. i pay the sales tax for MD and thats it. i bought a mustang in VA also, and they didnt charge sales tax but the sales sheet showed a lower purchase price than if i would have been living in VA. it actually helped me when i took the sales receipt to the local DMV and had a lower tax rate for what i paid. it wasnt huge but any savings help. my mother did the same thing with buying out of state. they didnt charge sales tax and she had to show the receipt at the DMV for the taxes to be applied. you should be ok.
Thanks for all the help, guys. Just my luck, the ones I was looking at in both Texas and Mississippi sold between yesterday and today, so those options are out.
Luckily, I found a stripped down, 100% base model 5.0 about three hours from me, still in Louisiana. I've e-mailed with the dealer a couple times to try to make something happen; hopefully I'll get lucky. Figure I'll just get a base model, throw in some 3.73s or 4.10s, and never look back. I have a Premium on the way, but the dealer tacked on a couple things I didn't want and at this point I'd rather just keep the note cheap since I'm just really not into leather as it is.
