Pics and videos running slicks at the Limerock road course

I finally put slicks (BFG R1's) on the car for my season finale event yesterday at Limerock. Results were awesome. What a MASSIVE difference compared with the street tires I've been running for the past seasons. I'm slightly addicted now. Anyways, a few pictures and videos for anyone interested.

Highest recorded cornering g's were 1.4. The tires are more capable than I am as a driver right now, so I have room for improvement all over the track, but I'm perfectly happy to be in the 1.01's at Limerock.

In the pits waiting for last session in front of my friend Pete

My friend Steve riding shotty for his first time out at a track. The massive grin sort of says it all....

The car getting a little bit light over the uphill

Thanks for sharing. What was the speed at the top of the hill where the car got light. Looks like you were pretty close to getting a little air.

I was cresting the hill at ~88-90 mph. From the drivers seat it felt like the fronts were airborne. Friends watching said I didn't actually catch air, but I'm thinking if the suspension had a bit less travel, it would have been getting a bit of air under the tires. I take the uphill cautiously. If you look closely at about 38 seconds into the video, you can see what happens if the wheels are not straight and you're a bit too heavy on the gas...

I see your point, it does tend to focus one's attention a bit, dosen't it? Especially when you're running without a roll cage . I think Posey's family once owned the track or at least has something to do with it's management. Is he still around and involved? I remember he drove a Dodge Challenger in the old Trans Am series.

I don't know that Sam is still involved at LRP. The main straight is named after him though.

I am planning the roll cage and 6-pt's this winter. I'm carrying some speed and things can go wrong very quickly. Don't ever want to plan for that, but I want to stay safe. And it's really nice being locked into the seat. The slicks allow for some very high cornering and braking forces. I am on the slippery slope of track day modifications

Way cool! I assume those are 18" rims, what width and tire size?

Correct they are 18's. Enkei PF01's in 18x9.5 all corners. Tires are 275/35/18 at all cornered. I really like the square setup. Seems to match my drivin style. And I got a phenomenal deal on the tires...

That front splitter again interests me. I might just have to pull the trigger but how is your rear end doing with that factory wing? Would the pedestal spoiler like on the Boss LS not do you a bit better? Also I just noticed but are those 4 brake cooling ducts I see on your front? I was planning on getting the two that go where the Boss LS have them.

I love seeing a mustang built for more than just drag racing.

THIS! Me too. And your car looks gorgeous. I swear those 18s look bigger in photos, usually the 2nd gen S197 looks ideal with wide 19s but those 18s look perfect.

I originally had the Ford Racing bezels hooked up (the ones where the lower fog lights would go). I found they were not flowing enough, so I installed larger, more forward facing inlets in the lower grill, which you saw. Those are connected. I still have the Ford Racing bezels installed at the moment, as I'm contemplating adding additional ducting there with an inline blower to support additional cooling at lower speeds. Might be overkill, but I still have TOASTY brakes after a session

I have not had any stability issues at high speed. That said, I am looking to mess around wtih some fiberglass or CF work this winter to build a real rear wing that will make some real downforce.

Thanks! I love the look of the Enkei's with the slicks. I also think they look perfect on my car. Very "I mean business" look in my opinion. Very light as well.

There are a growing number of Mustangs out at the local road courses around here. Great to see, because they do very well with just a few fairly cheap modifications.

Planning to keep the recaros. They are doing a great job and support the 6-pt harness.

I would look into a fixed back seat if your doing a cage. If there was a rollover the seat back of the Recaro could break from the base. Are you going to modify the seat to have a submarine mount?

The car looks glued to the track and you look in complete control. You need a really good tune to make you feel uncomfortable.

I'll look into this.

My Boss friends use the 6-pt with the lower straps looping under your legs. Seems to work OK
