Paint Chip Solutions?
Paint Chip Solutions?
The Damage
So I'm a little upset because of my own stupidity. Yesterday a guy's trailer blew out on the highway and I thought I had dodged all the shrapnel. This morning I go to wash my car and I notice a solid line of rubber all the way down my front bumper. As I was cleaning the car (with a low 1600 psi electric pressure washer on the widest angle) I guess the paint underneath the rubber had chipped and the pressure washer cut it open and sent paint flying. I threw the gun down and went inside. Then the rest of the rubber came off with regular soap and hose. I have definitely learned never to use a pressure washer on the body of a car only the wheels and recommend you guys do the same or you'll be visiting your paint shop just like me.
Tldr: I'm ****ing stupid.
However are there any other solutions you guys can think of to keep me out of the paint shop? Do you think you could repair this bad of a chip myself and make it look like it never happened? If not how much do you think a repair like this would cost? Planning on shopping for quotes tomorrow.

Regarding the paint kit, sure, it might work. Silver's a difficult paint to match, though, as are most metallics, because you're not doing just the color, but the color AND the sparkle material. Less or more of that over the base color and the 'shade' will be messed up. And getting it without tiger stripes or blotches... But sure, it could work. I daresay that it'll be easier to paint the whole bumper than try to blend it in on a patch...
Have you done a patch before? The blending and all the work? Here's a video for ya:
Main type of blending on whole panels:
Blending spot repair:
It's not easy... It's not hard... but it does take a bit of touch, time, and patience, and again, silver, or any metallics, are harder to do than solid colors.
I would save myself the aggravation and have it painted. And shop around for a shop that'll have a 'lifetime ownership warranty' so that if it happens again, you get it shot again for free. They do exist.
Not that it'll happen again, but...

I have a chip in my car caused by the car dealers mechanics. I also have Paint imperfections. I talked with the Body shop at the Dealer and they have ways to fix and Blend the paint. I just had my 2006 blended and it is Silver. Silver is terrible to match but it turned out good after the second repaint. fords paint is thiner than most don't ever use any pressure washer. Good Luck

I have fixed several chips but none that big. Trust me as much time and frustration you'll put into it, I would pay to have it fixed. On my G8, I had the hood and side skirt blended and it was only 300. I would think you should be able to get it done for under 200.
