Ordering question
Hi all,
Have a noob ordering question for you. Looking to buy my first new car. Planning on ordering a 2011 V6 Premium auto in Sterling Grey with MCA package and 3.31 limited slip. The dealer has said that it will take 6-8 weeks between ordering and delivery. Did you have to place a deposit when you placed your orders? And if so how much was the deposit? Thanks in advance.

I wrote a $200 check that my dealer never cashed. Deposits seem pretty standard on pre-orders and I've seen people put down up to 1k. They are usually refundable unless your dealer is a *****.

+1 for ordering early, I ordered in Feb and I had only ever seen the 2011's at the car show. I hadn't even seen the reviews and I knew I wanted this car. Hell, I didn't even know how to drive stick!

I had to put down $1,000 but it went toward the price of the car when it came in. I made sure it just didn't disappear somewhere in the paperwork.

I gave them a check for $500 which they did cash. I actually prefer that as uncashed checks have a nasty habit of disappearing.
I took 0% on 36 months so I just got a check for $17,500 back ($17,000 Trade + $500 Deposit) when I took delivery. I used the $1250 in rebates as the down payment.

Think of this, should there be a problem between you and your dealer how much of a hassle would it be to get your deposit back? They have to give it back to you but some dealers will give you a hard time and make you wait. That's $1000 you may have to wait for before you can go to another dealer to put it towards your down payment.
Curious here, how much are you paying for it? I fully believe if you order a car you shouldn't be paying much more than dealer invoice + holdback.
