My track pack takes right about 8.5 quarts everytime. I usually get a half a 1qt jug after that I keep for a top up.

Hello Gogoggansgo,

I’m not sure if this is your manual, but I checked all of our owner's manuals and supplement guides for the MYs you mentioned and they all say: 8.5 quarts for our Boss 302s and 5.0 for our 5.0 GTs with the Track Package.

whoa whoa.

5.0 for 5.0GT's? Are you sure about that? Not 8.0 quarts?

I'm going to chime in here since I've been following this issue with the oil weight and capacity on the track package option since May of 2012 when I purchased my 2013 GT track package Mustang.
The 1st and 2nd addition of the owners manual available from Ford online via "my Ford" had no mention of any difference in either oil weight or capacity between the non track package and track package. However there was a "add-on" page floating around with the differences and it stated 8.5 quarts and 5w-50 weight ( I have this page if anyone is interested in seeing it). The 3rd addtion of the owners manual available on-line through "My Ford" did add this difference but it states 8 quarts (not 8.5) of 5W-50 (I'm looking at the PDF right now).

I have not personally changed my oil yet but am about to this month. I'm going to let it drain for a several hours and see how many quarts it holds. I've had it changed twice at two different Ford dealership, first time was a road trip at 2000 miles and it was a battle with the dealership to get them to put 5W-50 in it even though the oil cap showed that. I told them that it should have 8.5 quarts as per the add-on page I showed them and they charged me for 9 quarts and showed on the invoice 8.5 quarts added (who knows if they really put in the extra .5 quarts).
The second oil change was a freebie from the dealer I purchased the Mustang from and again it was some what of a debate on the oil weight but they stated it only took 8 quarts and that's what it shows on the invoice.
I know my fill line on the dipstick showed exactly on the full line both times.

I've done my own oil changes (on a track pack), you don't quite get 8.5 quarts in. It takes roughly 8.25 quarts to exactly hit the top fill mark. Even if you just poured 8.5 in without checking I don't think a 1/4 qt overfill would damage the engine.
