I guess I'll bite on this one, being that I follow underneath the demographic of who you are referring to. I am guilty of purchasing a very expensive car at an early age, being only 24. This is only my opinion, as long as you are smart about your purchase, you budget wisely, and understand what you are getting yourself into, debt is not necassarily financial suicide. In some instances, it can actually be very beneficial. Yes a great number of people out of my generation are ignorant, but in a sense so were many people who use to be our age. I have heard countless times how they should have listened to their parents, and it seems to be a repeated cycle. We might not have the experience or knowledge yet, but it comes with time. As much as you older folks do not think we listen, we do. In some instance some of us hear and see how hard work pays off and some of us take in that mind set.

As far as respecting your elders and the whole "went out in the 90's" thats just another stereotype.

also, as you mentioned the stereo types and hate is not just from us "ignorant" young people, but some "ignorant" old folks as well.

Oh and to stay on topic, I really wish that kid did not take off the muphlers because it really doesnt sound right

Again, precisely. You're making my argument for me. OR, there is the option of, you know, listening to the people who have been through it already and can tell you how to proceed/what to avoid so as to prevent making the mistakes they did.

You just got through telling me most of your generation didn't. So...which is it? You don't need to answer that.

Actually, you're right. It went out well before the 90's. Had I done that when I was your age, I'd be better off. You'll be able to say the same thing when you're my age, whether you'll want to or not.

OR, the "ignorant old folks" are speaking from a position of experience you simply have not had yet, and what you deem to be ignorance is simply frustration at the actual ignorance of those younger than they who are unwilling to learn from their predecessors' mistakes. You seem to forget, old people were young people at one point, too. Therefore, you aren't doing/going through anything they haven't. Maybe they have more to offer than you think they do? Novel idea.

 

Every one goes into debt, they swipe their credit cards-debt, you take out a loan-debt, its a never ending cycle. the larger the cost the more debt assumed. I can't say its nonesense though, you pay off the debt either small or large. You build yourself a credit history= better loans. Sorry, for going through that, of course we younge people dont understand the difference between bad and good debt. I guess its just nonsense.

I dont totally disagree with what you said. to say that we are ignorant, is just as much of a stereo type. I agree with the second half of what you are saying. I can't say all, but there is a great number of older people that I have learned from, and will continue to learn from. Older people do have a large information bank that I can learn a great number of things from. Especially with the industry i work in and the only young guy other then myself is two to three times my age.



Ill be looking forward to it actually. Especially, when I get to say "when I was your age I had to walk 3 miles uphill in the freezing snow to get to and from school" :joke: I think the reactions will be funny.


Some old folks are pretty ignorant. Not meaning it as disrespect or anything, I just see it in the industry I work in. They see a kid and say well I'm not going to listen to them, just because of the age. Yes they might know something that I dont, but It does go the other way as well. Just because we are young doesnt always mean, we do not have a clue about certain things. I completely agree, everyone is young at one point, but everyone does not always learn the same things at the same age in their lives. To say that we are older so we know more then you is where the whole "ignorant older folks" come in. Sometimes you old folks can learn a few new tricks from this younger generation. It might be different, but we have some tricks up our sleeves.

 

I wouldn't call them ignorant, I'd call them foolish. Experience should teach you lessons; those who ignore those lessons are the fools. There are some older individuals whom are not good role models, are not good teachers either by word or actions. Just because a person gets older doesn't mean they become wiser.

Well, they are older, and they might know more than you. Do you know for certain that they don't? There are people your age that will say the same thing. There will be people younger than you that will say the same thing. Frankly, you'd be better off not letting anyone, older or otherwise, bother you with things like that. The smart ones learn from those who went before. I did that for some things, not for others. Wish I had. Don't think too highly of yourself and your experiences/knowledge; you may find it's not what you thought.

I'm 16, make $500,002 (yes, five hundred thousand and TWO dollars) a year....after tax mind you. I am, however, smart as I chose to sell my 05 GT (which I bought new in '04 when I was only 8) and buy a hybrid hyundai... gas is just so expensive these days. I admit, I still lived at home when I bought the GT as I was only in 2nd grade so I did have some help. I could have wrote a check for the hyundai, but I chose to take out a 15.1% loan to help my credit rating (all of this cash is just killing it).

Foolish/ignorant i guess its the way you look at it. Its all in the perception of who you are. Also they can be some of the best teachers on ways not to be or act. Failures make some of the best teachings.

Sometimes i dont have time to find out. There are times however you need to take the time and discuss before something is done. So to some extent i know for certain. Also you quickly learn peoples backgrounds. Being my age i sometimes have to think highly of myself. In case i have to deal with those ignorant old folks. :joke:. Yeah, it might not be what i thought, but thats one great way to learn. Another way to think about it. Some of the older people dont think highly of themselves, get flustered in a high pressure situation, and make the situation worse.

keep in mind I live in AZ which has a huge population of old people. They payless some of the time if they have good driving records. Also keep in mind many old people have had the right to drive taken away due to lack of ability.
