noob question about exhaust HELP!
Hi, I plan on buying a 5.0 in the future. I have a few questions about exhaust..
I want a really really loud exhaust that still sounds deep with a nice tone. I've been checking out the Borla Stingers and ATAK. I'm looking for the catback system since i will probably be doing headers and other mods down the road. I'm not a mechanic and have very little mechanical knowledge. I've read that catbacks are better if you plan on doing mods later, but what are the advantages of catbacks over axlebacks other than headers??
Also.. I'm really like the sound of the Stingers because I've read the ATAK sounds unnatural and does not have as great a tone as the S-Type. This is the video I"ve been watching: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kdlgfe6UWtI
It sounds great, but I'd like it as loud or louder than the ATAK but with the same tone. Is there anything to do that? I've heard that straight pipes (muffler deletes right?) makes it louder.. so can I run straight pipes with a X-pipe? Or is it one or the other??
Also, would the Borla Stingers axleback sound the same as the Catback? Or is the catback louder? And is there more drone/raspiness with the Borla catback as it comes with X-pipes?
Basically, I'd like an exhaust set up that sounds like the one in the video but much louder without loss of tone or rumble or become so crazy raspy
Thanks, guys. Im a newb. Sorry for bad english (or.. engrish)

I think the only advantage to having a catback system already installed is that when you go to install headers then all you would need to buy is the headers and an x or h pipe setup to complete the full exhaust. If you just do an axle back system you would need to replace more of the exhaust when you go to put headers on. For instance I had long tube headers, a short x pipe and a catback system on my 94 gt and it all bolted right up. If you go with the axle back and decide to do headers in the future you would need to replace more of the exhaust pipes when you went to add this upgrade. Doing a catback would benefit you in the long run if you plan on doing more. As far as sound goes it's really your preference. I have slp loudmouths on my 05 gt and it is really loud and sounds great.
I can tell u for sure if u plan on doing headers and an xpipe u should really consider, or not rule out, just getting an axle back. I have the below exhaust, and at idle it is deep deep and at full throttle, it is about as loud as u need it to be. I had a full catback at first but had to change it due to fitment issues with my car being lowered.
I've heard the Roush in person.. and they're not that loud. Maybe it's because I have the V6 Roush exhausts so their loudness are similar and I'm just used to it
I've seen that video a few times too and I really like the tone of the S-Type, not so much the ATAK. If the S-Type catback is similar to the loudness of the Roush that would be ****
