No.8 cylindar code (failure)

I have read lots of info on the No.8 cylindar issue that was sometimes a factor on 11-12 Mustangs with the 5.0 but I can't seem to find any info on if this problem was corrected by Ford in the later 5.0 engines? Was the issue addressed and or corrected?

It was a custom tune problem, by and large, but at first, indeed, some factory tune engines got hit. It was corrected in the factory and the custom tunes, so you don't hear about this anymore.

It doesn't mean it won't happen, for the number 8 does tend to apparently run a little hotter than the rest, if you play with the engine/tune, but it's now a well known, incorporated into the solution, issue, so you probably don't have to worry about it if the engine tune is a newer one.

Its my understanding Ford corrected the issue with the 13 plus 5.0's.

Steeda corrected it in 2011. Not one #8 failure.

There was some early factory calibrations that had vulnerabilities... However they were corrected in "2" versions and forward.

Early custom tunes that were based on the SCT file, caused the majority of the #8 failures.

No. Outright failure - melted #8 pistons, broken lands...

Read Matt's thread.

Then here's a couple:

Ford changed out the 11/12 pistons for 13 forward. Coated pistons, change in oil control rings & lands, deletion of oil squirters which added 8 HP (1/cyl) for a total of 420.

"Rod knock and everything" as the buddy in the car proceeds to rev it to redline on a *cold engine*.

Yep. That's a fine way to document your problem, sir.

The 3.7 liter engines have had massive no.7 and no.8 failures.

Yeah I've not read one post on the 3.7 that I can recall. And I prefer mechanical/technical threads so I try to catch them all (since there aren't near as many these days). But I don't think there are many 3.7 with tunes here as there are 5.0 with tunes.

That's why I got a V8. I hear the no 7 and 8 failure rate on the 3.7s was near 100%

I actually was the first blown #7 piston on my 3.7 to report and document the issue. Cost me a fortune to have my #7 piston replaced. Ford denied warranty coverage because they claimed my pony was tuned by the local crack head down my way..

You think you had a hard time, just wait till you see how often there is a no.8 failure on the EcoBoost cars. It could be as high as 1 out of 2 EB cars ever produced

I keep telling people to steer clear of that 4 banger. They gonna have a lot of #5 and # 9 blown pistons. Its gonna be ugly
