Names relating to national disasters tend not to be popular nor politically correct.

Boss for the entire family of the new V8 engine family.
It's short, sweet and catchy, like the Hemi.
If further clarification is needed they could be refered to as the Boss 5.8, Boss 6.2, etc.

For special high performance versions a the boss name can be added to like Boss HO or Boss 4V, etc.

Personally, I think it should be something new. Although the Mustang is a retro car, something new would be better.

Y'know I really miss the HighOutput and SuperHighOutput designations.

Although Boss 351 comes off a bit anachronistic (aren't we and that respected world power Burma/Myanimar the only ones still clutching at the old standard measurement system?)

What about Boss 580 (centiliters)?

Again, I'm a bit worried about potential naming confusion between motors and car models.

Would a Boss 580 Mustang have a Boss 580 engine, even if that same general motor, Boss 580, was found in a much lower HP tuning in, say, an F-150 truck?

Or would you have to append something like Boss 580 Cobra Jet to the hi-po motor in the Boss 580 Mustang (whew!)?

Or just put the Boss name to rest for Mustang models and go with something more up-to-date or unique (SVT 580, FR 580?)?

I think they should call it "The Sweet/Awesome Motor," or something similarly catchy.

The idea of calling an engine line "Boss" doesn't make any sense. That completely takes away from the uniqueness of a Boss Mustang. And like many people have pointed out, are they going to put a "Boss" engine in a Mustang GT? In a Mach 1? In a Shelby?! That's really pretty stupid. "Hurricane" was a great name, and it didn't refer to a specific car.

On a side note, I read that there is a possibility of a 6.2 liter version of this new V8, and in the future possibly a 7.0 liter version! How great would that be? A 428 cubic inch Mustang?! I don't care how much debt I put myself in, if they release a big displacement Mustang I'll be buying!

Cobrajet just seems to apply to the engine better for me. Boss embodies the whole car in my opinion.
