NEW Premium Magnetic Jack Pad Review
NEW Premium Magnetic Jack Pad Review
Recently John at http://www.zl1addons.com/ sent me the latest version of their jack pads for review. The new Mustang Premium MAGPAD combines the best aspects of their previous standard and universal/heavy duty jack pads. The standard jack pad is all nylon with a narrow base and the universal/heavy duty pad is all aluminum with a large base.
The new Premium MAGPAD has a large stable base, longer shoulders to support the pinch welds, and an integrated nylon liner to avoid scratching. Two rare earth magnets are embedded into the nylon insert which hold the jack pad conveniently in place on the pinch weld. What's even cooler is the addition of a "Remove Before Flight" tag, so you don't forget to remove them when done working on the car.
I found the Premium MAGPAD to be well-constructed. I liked how the pinch weld supports were nicely beveled to avoid scratching up your pinch welds.

The magnetic jack pad sticks right in place on the pinch weld in the factory rocker arm cutout.

From there, my standard non-low profile floor jack was able to slide in place underneath. I wasn't able to use my floor jack on the factory pinch welds prior to this as the pinch welds are recessed up in the rocker panel a bit. These pads are also ideal for use on car lifts.

The jack was able to lift up the car without fuss. No abnormal sounds, no movement of the jack pad, and zero scratching/damage upon removal. Awesome!

Don't forget to remove the pad when you are done! The tag was a nice touch, and easy to spot.

I wish I had got these instead of the plastic ones. I do like the plastic ones, but supposedly they aren't good for lifting it high, and they do seem to wear quickly.
The tag is a great idea as well...I won't say how many times I've accidentally left a pad stuck to the car...

Nice!
I have 2 of the standard and 2 of the heavy duty jack pads from ZL1addons. They are great. Its nice not to have to worry about scratching or bending the pinch welds. I use them every time I lift my car to work on brakes, or do tire rotations before and after my track weekends. I like the product a lot.

As Joey mentioned the plastic, and on the metal ones it's the contact area. They basically spread the load over 2" or so. My jack has a lip which puts a lot of pressure on the weld (I know I need a better jack), so these help a lot.
since my car is lowered, I like to drive up ramps, then jack up the front via the crossmember, then pull the ramps out. Would it be safe to use these for jackstand points? I'm never really sure where to place jack stands under these cars!
I use the plastic pads for jack stands. They work great. I always use the pinch welds to lift and for jack stands. The pads help with that. A LOT.
No, I would not use them with jack stands, better to lift at pinch welds and place jack stands at sub frame.
