That's the taxi meter. Everyone is trying to offset these gas prices.

Seriously though, it's probably just some test equipment.

 

Looks like they are doing a pretty good job of hiding those "hips" too.

 

They show up pretty good in that picture. Too bad the rest of the car looks terrible.

I don't mean this to be disrespectful in any way, but you are trying to judge this car like trying to judge the looks of a Muslim woman wearing a burka ( not sure if its the right spelling, sorry. ) I don't see how you judge what you cannot see...... unless you have x ray vision.

It appears to be what we should expect- a freshening of the car, like mid-cycle SN95 change from 94-98 to 99-04. And it appears we're getting even more, since that was just exterior, while the crappy interior from 1994 was left in there. Ford seems to get the idea that the S197 2005 interior was cool design, but needed a significant upgrade away from the cheap plastic, and we're getting new dash, console, doors, steering wheel for 2010!

Meh- more "humor" from Jalopnik. I think they're trying to keep the writing at their commenters' level. Just sayin' s'all... I'm confident this car'll be neat- I just hope that gas prices don't squelch engine development (i.e. "Boss" rumored to have been axed)
