Cool Neighbor

Last night I was talking with my next door neighbor about his car (Mercedes CL 300 series). He took it to the shop yesterday for the 3rd time for some transmission issue. He said he is ready to just sell it and get something new. So he says:

"You know what car is really nice that I'd like.....That new Mustang.".

Me:

Me: "Yea, I know. It'll be sitting in my spot hopefully in a year"

So we went on and on about the car and the features. At first I thought it would suck to have the same car as the neighbor when we park within 3 ft of eachother everyday. Then I thought it would be cool to have something to BS about. Thats when he drops this dime:

"That gray color in the commercials is really nice"

Me:

Me: <Walking inside> "Just don't get the same color"

I sure hope he doesn't get one before me.

Hey, you guys could get cool vanity plates: STANG1, STANG2 . . . or something.

Or maybe you should get: MEFIRST.

If he buys the same color, then that's just a big excuse for you to start modding.

Be careful, if you get a V6, he'll get a GT. If you get a GT, he might just get a Shelby. There's game theory behind this.

That might explain why Mercedes-Benz was ranked well below Ford in the latest JD Powers Vehicle Dependability Study (measures problems with cars 3 years old). Pretty embarrassing for a Luxury Brand (but, hey, folks still buy Land Rovers and they are consistently ranked last in quality).

His has been a POS since day 1. It would be nice to see him with an American made car for once.

Right now our lot looks like (Lexus (My GFs), Pontiac(mine), Mercedes, Porsche)

He would probably get a GT. Maybe even a V6. Definitely not a Shelby.

Well, if you both get GTs, then you'll have nothing to really one up on the other, and with the amount of appearance mods you could get (even just stock), you could still have relatively different looking cars.

Where I live, Mercedes, BMW, and Lexus are the most common makes. In my experience, people who buy those cars buy them for brand cache. They don't care if it's a complete POS, so long as it has the right emblem on the grille.

Same thing around here. A BMW 300 series is like your everyday Honda Civic. Everyone has one.

I love how they spend ~$50k+ on a car, but never clean it. Never maintain it. And beat it all to ****.

My '06 Pontiac is in better shape than 99% of the luxury cars on the road here.

How clean / defect free mine will stay will set us apart. He only washes his car once or twice a year.

And don't even try to explain to someone around here how American car companies going bankrupt effects EVERYONE across the country. They think if GM, Ford, and Chrysler go under, just a few folks in Detroit will be out of work.

Bunch of GD idiots.

Similar situation with me and my circle of friends - I felt the same need to not be 2nd or it just wouldn't be the same, especially if they got "my" color first, or worse yet, got a different color that once I saw in person would appeal to me more than my 1st choice!

Fortunately my car was available via dealer exhange with exactly the options I was seeking, and the rest, as they say, is history. You need to get moving on this!

I'm pretty sure the UAW driving GM into the ground is just a matter of time (or did it happen already?). Kind of like teacher's unions in New Jersey.

Around here it seems that people who never wash their cars tend to drive Chrysler products. Sky blue ones in particular.
