My/Our S197 versus the 2017 Camaro (side by side)

The Chief Engineer for the Camaro said the 1LE package "won't have any problems" with the GT350. I can't wait to see the head 2 heads and see the numbers.
I love these muscle/sports car wars. They make all these cars better and better.

The GT350?!?! A ZL1 would/will make the GT350 look slow in the 1/4 mile.
Are you taking road course or 1/4 mile? I "would think" the ZL1 would handle itself pretty good in a road course too. Don't quote me as saying it will.

In my humble opinion that would be the S550. Or as i like to call it Large-mouth Bass Fusion coupe with a smashed up rear end.
On looks alone I'd take a '17 Camaro over the S550 every day of the week and twice on the weekends. Not to mention the superior performance.

We all have our preferences, and we all like our S197s. I was close to getting a '14 Camaro, but I decided on the Mustang instead, and I have no regrets! I love my car, I drive the **** out of it, and I'm in no rush to replace it.
But if something happened, I can't stomach the looks of an S550. Challengers are not really track cars, so the only logical choice for me would be the SS. Hopefully the next gen Mustang is better looking. I'm not mind-locked on one brand, I appreciate all the sports cars, and it comes down to looks, performance, value and quality.

I must be the rare S197 owner who loves the rear of the S550, even more than the '13-'14. The front, I've ambivalent, except on the GT350(R) which is awesome.
From a looks perspective I'd take a comparable S550 to a new Camaro, plus I'm slightly claustrophobic so I had issues with the windows in the Camaro I rented. But man Chevy is stepping it up with performance.
Check out the offerings from Pontiac, Plymouth, Oldsmo... oh.

Not to sound like a smarta$$ but what else would the Camaro's chief engineer say? "We've got a great car but the competition's offering is better!" In reality the 1LE package is a track car so it should be compared to the GT350 R, not the standard GT350. Apples to apples comparo's for me thanks. IF that's what were to happen, I seriously doubt it would be a cake walk for the Camaro.
For what it's worth, in my opinion, when the comparable variants of each mark are compared to each other, the Camaro and Mustang are so close in performance you could toss a blanket over them. Nobody really loses in this war! As you said Monster, it's a good time to be muscle car fan! The rising tide is lifting all boats!

I just got done looking at the pics again. Yep, I like the 17 ZL1 Crapmaro's looks more and more. Seeing it in person (granted, just an SS) changed things for me. And yes, I've seen a couple GT350's in person. I'm still lukewarm over the S550's looks. I don't "dislike" it anymore, but it's looks are just meh.... not good, not bad. Just lukewarm.

The next Z28 is the contender against the GT350R.
The base SS is ~40k. The 1LE package will be another $6 or 7k. So if a $47k 1SS 1LE is in fact faster than a $55k GT350, that's a double win for Chevrolet. $63K 350R is not apples to apples with a $47k SS 1LE.
This pony war is great for everyone, I totally agree. I just hope Ford opens their eyes to the performance bargain benchmark these cars need to aim for.
