My "Musclecar Prius"

Hello fellow horse whisperers....I mean worshippers! If someone would have told me a few years ago that I would be excited about ordering a V6 Mustang I would have laughed in their face. However, here I wait for 7/31 to come and the arrival of my Sterling Gray Mustang V6 with 3.31 gears. I have always owned V8 cars and trucks but have grown tired of commuting in my 15.5 mpg F-150. Besides my wife and I recently bought an AWD Ford Edge so I might as well make it three Fords in the garage. What I don't understand is all the animosity towards V6 owners from some GT drivers. Geez, when I was in high school (back in the 80s) the 5.0 was rated at 225hp. I think the new 3.7 is a marvelous accomplishment by Ford. I have owned and driven enough gas chugging, tire roasting, plant you in the seat vehicles and although the V6 doesn't have stump pulling torque, it still has plenty of muscle and fills a need; the need for those of us who still want to haul A$$ but save a few bucks at the pump. By the way, I still love V8 musclecars and will probably buy another one someday, just not for a daily driver.

P.S. I was once a big General Motors fan and lived and breathed Pontiac and still can't believe that I will soon own another Ford.

^ X2 what he said!

Was it SmokingTire.com who said that the V6PP cars would make a terrific, inexpensive track toy? They really liked it also.

I've always had V6 or "underpowered" cars before, some of which were lots of fun, but this time around I just had to get the GT. I traded-in a V6/AWD Dodge Charger on it. My best day in that car was a 1:58 lap time at Mid Ohio at a track day! Not bad for a 2-ton, V6 behemoth on street tires, imo.

Welcome to the forum, and congrats on the new car. I know you will enjoy the ride.

PS, I haven't seen any animosity on the forum for the V6. Their great cars.

I know of no GT owners who express animosity towards the V6 guys.

Welcome to TMS!

Congrats on the V6 Mustang!
I think any GT owners 'negative' comments about V6's are just stirrin' things up - not animosity. You know, big brother little brother stuff. 300HP out of a V6 is pretty cool.
I grew up in a Pontiac family. But since early 80's been behind Ford's for work and personal and have hundreds of thousands of dependable miles.

I have animosity towards them, just because they have more power and mpgs than I do

The only thing I have is jealousy when I fill mine up sometimes and wish I got a v6 that would have gotten 29 instead of 19 MPG. LOL

Congrats on your new 'Stang! I was back-and-forth on the V6/V8 until I finally decided to opt for the 5.0 based on the V8 exhaust note & the nice bark upon start-up. But I have total respect for any 2011+ V6.

I have the GT now (yay!)... but only because the dealer had sent away the GHIG V6 Premium w/performance package to have all the fake Shelby crap put on it before I got there.

I saw it today when I was dropping off the other key to my trade. I would've bought it had they left it alone. I might've bought it with the fakey crap if they hadn't wanted like $6,000 for the 'upgrades'.

Saw this 2013 Base V6 at the dealer recently, only option was a $750 "sport" package that appeared to be a few decals. As such it stickered at about 23,400 (over $10K less than my mildly-optioned '12 GT Premium). Considering the base 2013s now come with the leather steering wheel AND the adjustable tilt head restraints that I had to buy from MRT to remedy my 2012, I thought this car was a MEGA value! Just look at those exhaust tips and tails. Who can disrespect this rolling artwork?

Welcome from another v6 owner! These motors are full os surprises, none of em bad. Yea dont have the same note as a gt, but still have plenty grunt, good power right past 3k rpm's, light and nimble. Woth the performance back an a few basic suspension upgrades upon that platform youll be hugging turns like eco-activists hug trees. Congrats!

Traded in my base '07 GT for a base '13 V 6 - it's truly amazing what has trickled down from previous years to be now standard items. Got a new car warranty and what I consider a much better driving and handling car for for less than 5 grand and change. Couldn't be happier.

Congrats on yours.

Better control of your right foot will do wonders.

When I'm moderately careful I can average 25MPG in 100% city driving. It just takes resisting the urge to use the power to get in front of everyone else. In fact my wife is kind of mad at me because she didn't want me to get a Mustang in the first place, and is now irritated that I can squeeze out better milage from it than she gets from her i4 Camry.

im sure this has been talked about but i was thinking about a nice v6 for my GF, but adding either the 3:55 or 3:73 gears to the car....i didnt see an option for these from the factory or maybe i was just missing but how much would that change the complextion of the cars performance? would it be like the old 2006 GT i had with the v8 - 305hp and 3:55 gears? (with a little less weight)
not too concerned about the mpg's since she would use it as a weekend car anyway...

I know what you were referring to, However I have not seen that on TMS. One reason I have become such a post w**ore on here I owned a 2006 Legend Lime Mustang V6 which I did love and I customized quite nice. I would have held on to it however because of the way I set it up + being a auto I never could find that I could use it as a DD. I did not see any Mustang until the 2013 that made me want to part with it and also give up my DD. So you won't here any bad stuff from me..
