My 2011 Mustang V6 in deep snow

I purchased and installed Michelin X-Ice xi2 winter tires. I have been driving in severe winter conditions and so far the tires have driven through slush, powered snow, deep snow, unplowed roads, and parallel parked and pulled out over the snow plow bank with no drama. AdvanceTrac is doing it's part but overall I just reduce speed and keep going. Even changing lanes on the autobahn with deep slush between the plowed lanes was no problem at 50 MPH.

Empty trunk and no extra weight. I have not driven up twisty/curvy steep hills yet but I would give it a shot and I am confident that it will make it without trouble.

Very nice! As I'm sure you already know, this car is very fun to drive in the snow!

What is the dry road handling like with the Xi2s?

Cool My yard winter 2007-8

We had deep snow that year.
The snowbanks were taller than my truck.
Had to actually break out the snowblower.
Heck, the snow in the back of the truck is deeper than the OP's pic.
Even though most of it had already blown out on the highway.

I live in Southern California, so excuse this dumb question: Can you just get in it and drive away? What would happen if you just put all that torque into going forward...? lol..

Surprisingly well. Three weeks before our snowfall I had the Michelin tires mounted. The handling is not like past cars that was horrible and scary in the handling department (Dunlop Graspic DS-2). Althought those tires worked well I was much happier with the Dunlop Winter Sport M3s on my cobra.

I am satisfied with the Xi2s. Even though these are "T" rated tires the sidewalls are reinforced enough to provide good cornering stability and not that instable squirmy feel.

I can second the Ice Xi2's in the snow for good control and traction. i can not address how they are on dry as i never had anything but these on to compare them too since the 19's came off the car before it was delivered and the snows went on :/ so i have to wait till spring to try ot the "summer" tires

Well those pics are in 6 inches of snow on Friday morning. That is in the Heidelberg area where snowfall is rare except for last year and so far this year. Drive out 30 miles from here in the mountain range foothill area get caught out in a snowstorm and lets see where you stop to take pics. My drive was back from Frankfurt to Heidelberg (65 miles) where there was enough snow to close the airport for several hours . Frankfurt Airport is a gateway to Europe. I MADE IT BACK HOME SAFE.

I was happy to be back in the lower elevation so I snapped a couple of photos. Last night I finally had the car in nearly one foot of snow (25cm) in the Bensheim, Germany (40 miles from home) area on a fairly steep hill going up with cobblestones as the road surface. The road was not plowed but had traffic slush things up a bit. They cannot salt the neighborhood area (I assume) we visited because of historic reasons while the rest of the city was plowed and the roads were free. The car made it up with no problem. AdvanceTrac and traction control really assisted when I came to a stop at the top of the hill and started again.

I do not live in Florida or SoCal but for sure we do not get 2 feet of snow everyday here. But my pics and this post is to help others decide on which tires work and provide a bit of feedback from a fellow mustang driver and not just the marketing advertisement from Michelin or Good Year.

Keep in mind this country is not like Canada and the USA but some areas get 3 feet of snow or more while some areas less. Ski country (Alps) is only a few short hours away. Even in the winter there are no speed limits and many drivers with 4 wheel drive vehicles will pass you on the autobahn in a blizzard where the tailwind shakes your car. When you can drive your car in these same conditions and post up details about it like I can and will continue to do please feel free to post up as well. Until then keep the snowed in pictures coming. They are amazing. Has anyone attempted to drive their car in that or was it parked for the winter?

I had to drive my 06 gt vert for 2 years in the snow and my 09 gt in the snowfor a year(pictured). 250 lbs in the trunk helped the 2nd year in the vert. The foot of mud in NM was way more tricky but was fun to drift in.

I have been driving my stangs in snow for 5 years now. The GF gets the five hundred most of the time.

this was after a 24 hour period last year.

Amazing pics. More than likely we will never get that much snow in the Heidelberg area. But if we do I will shovel the pony car out and make a few videos. I had to drive in such an accumulation in Bavaria a few years ago in my 96 Cobra. It was still a bit scary on the highway. I have videos from that time but it is on 8mm tape.

that's not deep snow . . . now here's deep snow!

here's my 2010 GT in deep snow

No, I did not attempt to drive it in this foot-plus snow before it was plowed . . . but after plowing with some snow still on the streets it did great. Yes I do have real snow tires.

I find that the stability control does a pretty good job of preventing skids . . . of course you still have to be careful . . . I tried to do a donut with the traction and stability control on and it basically wouldn't let me do it . . . gotta turn that stuff off to have fun in the snow.

Overall I like rear wheel drive in the snow better than front wheel drive. When the drive wheels spin on an FWD car you lose all steering . . . when the drive wheels spin on RWD you can have fun.

LoL, notice when someone mentions "snow" all the Canadians show up.

I'd show a pic of my car but I'd have to get it out of the garage first ...
