Mutton Chops
Uh, them were Pork Chop Sideburns.
Thank Ya'.... Thank Ya' Very Much, Uhh Huhhh. Can ya' pass me sum ah them there mashed tatters?

I should know, I've worn them with my Goatee for the last 15-20 years off and on. Well not quite as big as E's.
Here's a Couple of pic's I did to help show the Aerodynamic Effects of the "Mutton Chops" and their Little Brother's "Sideburn's" on the V6.
The Blue Arrows represent the airflow coming at the Front Bumper. As it passes the edge of the Bumper. On the GT, the vertical section at the front of the "Mutton Chops" separates the air flow and directs it two ways. Into the Lower grill area for cooling and around the side which by having the hollowed out area created by the "Mutton Chops" the air is forced to flow out and around the side of the car and around the tires.
The Yellow Arrows represent the air that makes it under the Front Bumper. It is then caught by the Air Dam underneath the Front Bumper and directed around to the side of the car, also past the tires.
The Green Arrows actually represent the higher pressure points that would create a pocket and actually catch the air and cause drag. As the sections on each side of the Lower Grill on the GT are Blocked off and do not allow air to flow through. However, this may prove beneficial to forcing greater amounts of air through the actual opening Benefiting cooling. On the V6 the same also applies to the outer corners of the Lower Grill, and the Pockets created by the Fog Lamp openings.

Great illustrations Shawn. IMHO, the V6 facia looks so much more stylistically integrated and better thought out than the GT design. Whereas the GT facia almost looks like the Mutton Chops were aero add ons that they tried to integrate into the styling after the fact.

Here's my take on the mutton chop thing. Basically, I just filled them in and made them cover more of the bumper, rather than just hanging out there like the little winglets they are now. Also, since I hadn't seen it done yet, I went ahead and blacked out the body-colored strip below the lower grille.

Would it have killed Ford to have integrated those "mutton chops" and made them a painted part of the bumper cap instead of making it part of the lower opening (grill) insert? I see a bigger part to break if that lower corner should get hit... The V-6 front end just looks so much more cleaner and has the painted "uprights" as well - FTW.
