Mustang vs Camaro at the road course

I think the Camaro would have done quite well with a more experienced driver, but for fun, here are two laps where I am tailing him and then pass. Have to feed the Ford vs Chevy battle a bit

I also want to say I am by no means a pro driver - I do the track days for fun and try to stay modest as there are lots of far more experienced and far faster folks out there who I have and continue to learn lots from!

That's awesome. I'd love to do a track day like that. Silly question: how did you get all that data on the screen of your video? Is it some kind of device the track provides (rents) to you, or is it something you bought?

I use Harry's Lap Timer app on my iphone combined with the GoPoint OBDII gizmo which links up and streams data via bluetooth connection to the phone. Then I can select specific laps (all are recorded) to overlay data onto the video. Super cool app and grand total cost (not counting iphone) is about $115.

Highly recommend getting out to a track day if you can! The Mustangs do really well especially if you have the track pack

That's cool. So you're using the iPhone to record the video and not a GoPro or similar?

My cousin keeps trying to talk me I to going auto crossing next month. He's been doing it for a few months with his VW GTI and loves it, but I'm more interested in the road courses. Only problem is the cost difference between the two.

Slightly off-topic: how is your pieced-together brake duct kit treating you? I posted in your thread regarding it. I think I'm going to try doing that myself soon to get ready for whatever track event I finally do.

I need to get Harry's Lap timer before I hit the Ring up. All my buds use it there. Great footage.

I've done some auto-x too and road courses are a lot more fun in my opinion

The brake cooling kit I pieced together is excellent. Has been working wonderfully. Still generates a lot of heat but the cooling manages it

Yes you do! It's well worth it. Never know what you'll capture on video...

That guy has odd lines that make me think he is very young or not too naturally inclined for this.
Must have sucked even for 2 laps holding you up.
Are you still on sumitomos?

Yes you could probably sense my frustration as I would apex and exit a corner and be just feet from his bumper. I had learned from earlier sessions that was he only way to get a point by... Some people (there was a mustang doing the same thing) really almost refuse to give point bus because their cars have great straight line speed, which his absolutely did. Oh well, I had lots of clear laps too which made up for a few slow ones

Yes I am on the sumitomos. They are wearing very slowly like I wanted. Easily will get another 6-8 track days out of them. Although I really really want r comps or slicks now... I probably have the least sticky tires out of everyone that runs in advanced groups. Haha. But I also spent the least $ on tires

Yep it's a blast - burned about 1/3 gallon per lap. Worth every penny. Always is

Hahaha, that's awesome! The guy was missing his apexes by over 6 feet. Good job. Great proof that straight line fast is not the same as lap fast. Good thing this wasn't a 1LE with a decent driver (haha, fanning the flames)

P.S I have a full weekend at Grattan raceway coming up in less than 3 weeks. I'm trying to get a mount for my Galaxy S4 to take some videos at last.

Apexes are harder to get right when you can't see out of the car because of the tiny windows lol.
