You know, cool as Interceptor is, they could always just call a production version the Galaxie. Not too many names I'd put over that one in the American full-size car hall of fame.

I don't know what you guys are saying about the CV and the TC. Maybe you've got more recent info, but last I heard was a little different. The TC almost bought the dust, but then they decided to move production to St Thomas alongside the CV and GM. Now I haven't heard anything about how long the TC would go on, but I did hear that the CV is getting a redone for the 2009 MY, with some of those changes possibly first showing up on the current car in 2008 as sometimes happens when new cars are about to come out. Ford spent some time with Ford Police Advisory Board, figuring out exactly what it is police are looking for, how much faster they really need to go, stuff like that.
Check it out in this thread on BON:

But yeah, I don't know what that means for a consumer car, but it seems like its getting an update on the panther platform. Now of course i'm sure Ford is overhauling a bunch of their product plans, so who knows if things have changed. Interceptor definitely seems like a name that would be appropriate for a car that everybody can buy, and that's so sweet that the cops use it to catch bad guys.

Replacing the BOF RWD CV with a FWD unibody would be a huge mistake, besides, they already make it, it's called the 500.

How sure are you of this info? Everything we've heard to this point is that the MKS is based on an upgraded D3 architecture (FWD/AWD), and that the Mustang/D2C-derived cars are futher out. MKS is AWD(D3-based), Interceptor and the Linc Coupe are RWD (D2C-based).

Why would it be a mistake? Sales of the Panther cars keep sinking. They are only a fraction of what they were 10 years ago.

And I was all set to buy a Mustang station wagon, especially if it was available with a 4 cyl engine.

My hopes and dreams have been crushed by Ford again.
