Mustang Sedan Rumor offically killed by Ford!

DEARBORN, Mich., Dec. 15 – Ford Motor Company today made clear that recent media speculation concerning an expanded Mustang line – including a sedan and wagon model to be sold in global markets – is not true. Mustang is an icon and will continue in its current form: a unique, two-door, rear-wheel drive, 2+2 performance car.

At the 2007 North American International Auto Show, Ford will unveil a four-door, rear-wheel-drive concept car. The concept, known as “The Interceptor”, is based on the Mustang’s rear-wheel-drive architecture but it is not a Mustang and no production plans have been announced. Additional information on the Ford rear-drive concept will be available December 31, 2006.

OK, I guess everyone on this forum can finally stop typing up those "Mustang for sale" ads and get a goods night sleep!

I figured if Ford was going to make a sedan based on the Mustang platform, they would (smartly) give it different sheet metal and call it something else.

That's the news I wanted to hear. A new rear wheel drive sedan sounds good though.

I bet you that the press might have gotten confused by thinking that a new 4-door car based on the Mustang chassis meant "4-door Mustang".

Those silly people...

The Crown Vic is slated for a replacement as is the Lincoln Town Car. Rummors are that the upcoming MKS from Lincoln will be this replacement car. It's architecture is based on the Mustang, but utilizes an independent rear suspension. This will also underpin the next Police interceptor.

Actually, Town Car got a reprieve. I am unsure of exactly how long Ford expect to continue producing the TC, but it will out-live the CV.

Ooooh, I hadn't thought of that. Wonder if she sucks nitro too?

I wouldn't mind driving a car called 'Interceptor' at all, and since Ford has a long history with that particular nomenclature I could see it happening. And, yes, it would be even better if the badging read 'V-8 interceptor'
