Mustang Rifle Rack!
Yep, that title is right! I'm sorry if anybody has seen this on the other two forums I'm on. I just joined this forum today after reading someone else's build thread and wanting to subscribe to it.
So here is my project and what I started with:
That's a Shelby shock tower brace and some parts from an old rifle rack mount for a police car. I also got my hands on a new momentary switch and timer from eBay.
Here it is mocked up so I could get an idea of where I was going to have to drill to mount the lock parts.
I drilled out the mounting holes and test fitted everything, and then took it all apart and painted it with appliance epoxy paint.
And now all assembled:
This is how the Shelby shock tower brace mounts into the car:
And here is the finished product!
Here is the car it went into:

That is some cool $heite! I assume with the loaded mag and the gun on Fire that it is "Rack Safe" (hammer dropped).
P.S. you do know that if someone gets in the trunk that they can easily take the rifle....buy popping both pins out at the same time and separating the upper and lower!
You need a "U" shaped plate that covers both sides of the upper, lower and take down pins so they can't be manipulated. Otherwise the lock is useless.

You may have to think about some kind of bar or lock behind the charging handle that prevents movement. Otherwise even if someone can't remove it (and from what tacbear says that is possible) someone can still rack a round in and discharge it.

Ha! Good eye. I had actually cleared the weapon and "dropped the hammer" before posing it for the picture. So the mag was unloaded and thus, it was still set to "pew" instead of "no pew".
The u-shaped piece of metal with rolled edges is yet to come!

Dang it, cops. They make me paranoid. I hate cops. I hate them so much, that when I get home I'm going to burn my uniform, and throw away my badge, but I'm holding on to the pistol.

I have several ways to carry mine in my personal car...but mine don't lock so when I am away from my car it goes in a tennis racquet bag in the trunk.
Shoot for years while was on the TAC team I carried a belt fed M60 machine gun locked in the trunk of my Mustang Patrol Car.
Pics of 1988 Mustang Patrol car...the rest are my personal 2000 GT.

Hahaha! I'm not quite redneck! I may live in Georgia, but I'm a **** yankee from New Jersey. I'm just high on the freedom of being able to own some good stuff!!!

I had it for 5 1/2 years and put 148,000+ miles on it! Never got outrun in a chase in fact HPD use to call for my help whenever they had one trying to outrun their officers!
137 mph flat, 152 mph (slight downhill)
I build AR's...been doing it since the 80's. I would love to have a Class III weapon, but don't like the ATF restrictions, so I built a "Pistol".
LMT 10.5" upper with NiB BCG and free float rail.
KAK Flashcan diverter
Aimpoint M4
Magpul BUS
Light/Green laser module
Anderson Lower w/ALG trigger
Ergo Grip
Thordsend buffer tube cover
LAW Tactical folding "buffer tube" adapter
It is only 18" with "buffer tube" folded
