Get an engine from Cosworth or something. So cool.
The 2.3L Duratec from the Ranger is pretty cool, it's all aluminum, 16V DOHC, 143hp stock in the Ranger(tuned for truck torque). It's a RWD version of the 2.3L that was in the Focus. I bet it would really wake up with a turbo.

Ford has the ability to make TONS of power out of small engines.....they just need to do it. In Australia they have a turbocharged 6 cylinder that makes great power....back in 1986 in the SVO Program the engine destined to go into the 1987 SVO was a DOHC 2.3 that made 300HP....sadly the program was killed before this could become a reality due to lack of sales and poor marketing. The SVO was ahead of it's time and the public just wasn't ready for it.

Ford had 3 Prototype 2.3 Engines in development.....one was blown up, one is still with Ford and one went to the truck division for testing and the cylinder head from that one is....here with me It is similar to the cosworth type setup but the head I have is more of a museum piece as it is a prototype and would take an immense amount of work to make it ready to have the longevity for road use.

Well c'mon, it's not like you are using that shop to make a living get the thing up and running already. I read somewhere that there was supposed to be a DOHC SVO head in private hands but had not the slightest clue it was in your hands. Cool stuff.

The SVO story does make me shake my head a bit since the 300hp engine would have likely made all the difference in the world in demand for that car (and possibly for the XR4ti as well, not to mention what it would have done for the Thunderbird Turbo Coupe for that matter although that car was obviously successful even without the added power) I'm sure a lot of customers held off on purchasing the SVO because the difference in power between the SVO and GT wasn't 'enough' in their eyes to justify the price difference. For the 1987MY Ford develops a fix for this issue by way of the DOHC head addressing the likely reason for lackluster sales, and then promptly cancels said solution and the car itself because of lackluster sales. Brilliant.

Actually I had forgotten I gave those pictures to Brad to put on the site, those ARE the pictures I have and found I burned them to CD and kept them in a safe place rather than on the computer....except he listed it as an '86 and the car used for prototyping it was an '84 or early '85 model. I also provided them for a book and am listed as a contributor inside the cover for those and SVO information in general...you can see them in the Fox Mustang Recognition guide that was published about 5 years ago.
