MT82 Fluid Swap Tomorrow - Help?
It's because you ask the impossible. Somehow some statistically relevant sample of transmissions that are going to fail in the future would have to be identified in advance of the failures. Then you'd have to have all of them swap to the MTL and then prove that the oil saved the day. Impossible.
45 degrees yesterday morning. After a mile and having the MTL warm up, it was nice and smooth. Before MTL with the stock fluid and cold mornings, 1-2 was notchy and I had a lot of deflection.
I changed my fluid to MTL before I started having any grinding or other problems (900 miles on the car). So far everything is working very good.
MTL is specifically made for brass syncros, which is in our transmissions. The ford stock fluid junk doesn't seem compatible with the syncros in our cars.

Here is a link to Redline, specifically the MTL fluid. You will notice it does not mention the Mustang, but does mention the Focus...perhaps an e-mail to Redline to confirm the MTL is a Ford approved substitute would help you make a decision.

There have been posts on this, posted a few months ago. Before Ford switched to the QDC fluid in the Job 2 2012 cars; Ford was using the QS fluid. When Ford was using the QS fluid, Red Line specifically stated on their site, MTL was a popular replacement for our transmissions.
Now that ford has switched to QDC (dual clutch fluid) Red Line can no longer support any fluid for the MT82. There was a email from a Red Line rep stating that since ford switched their specs to the dual clutch fluid; RL can no longer "officially" recommend any fluid since they have no dual clutch transmission fluid to offer.
So RL did recommend MTL when ford was using the QS fluid. Ford switched to the dual clutch, so no RL can no longer recommend any fluid.
