MT 2011 Shelby GT500 vs 2011 Mustang GT 5.0
Just curious if anyone else picked up this month's MT issue with the 2011 Shelby GT500 tested. I find it hard to believe the GT500 ran 0-60 in 4.2 seconds versus the 0-60 in 4.3 seconds they ran the 5.0 in June's issue. Only a .1 second difference in 140hp and 120 ft/lbs of torque? It makes settling(if you'd call it that) on my 5.0 over a GT500 @ $20k less that much better.

It doesn't matter how much power you have if you can't put it to the ground. Put sticky tires on both and it's a different story. And 1/4 mile times are only one part of the equation, from a roll the Shelby is hard to catch.

Not going to happen, besides, the aftermarket is there to help any traction issues. Control arms and shocks and struts don't cost that much and are easy to install yourself (minus the UCA which is a PITA). Both cars go from a roll of 40 or so and the Shelby rapes the 5.0.

The GT500 with the SVTPP was recently clocked @ 0 - 60 in 4.1 seconds.

And I think the impressive fact is the 4.3 out of the 5.0
A few years ago that was unheard of in a car that was not a ZO6 Vette or from across the pond and costing 6 figures. I mean the 4.6 3V had to have bolt ons to break the 5 second barrier. Didn't it?

Ergo; 4000 lbs 560hp Z/28 or 550hp 3800 lbs GT500
GM might swap pistons in the LSA for a little more power, but I can't see them stepping on the toes of the ZR1 (at least on paper, but I think they are committed to the new SAE power testing standard which pretty much prevents sand-bagging) power wise even if its in a heavier car.

I've got LCA relocators on my car with the LCAs angled down for better bit of traction and you can see the effect it has on the car as the nose lifts a bit more when the car accelerates. Probably not the best thing when your trying to pour the power on coming around a corner and unloadng the front suspension. Otherwise it works pretty good when you fly around a nice sweeper with a kink at the end and stab the throttle.

It's not like "New Ford" to rest on their laurels while waiting for the competition to "catch up," so to speak. You can rest assured that they've got something in the works to assure their GT500 remains top dog.

Maybe it will have enough power to take on ANY car GM has in their stable.

I read the article, it is of note that the writer stated they would have had better times with better tires and better weather. They noted that the car is capable of droping down into the high 3's.

As far as power goes they would just start making the TVS blower standard. Probably that whole package. As of now the TVS package, can't think of the exact name right now, you can buy and get installed at your Ford dealer(and keep your warranty) ups the power rating on the 2010+ GT500 to 660-670hp. So they at least have some wiggle room.
