Not sure what your gearing is but that's pretty good for that kind of speed.

You sure? 3.31 is the lowest standard gearing on your car, and 3.55 and 3.73 are the upgrades. I've got 3.31s in my car and the best highway tank I've ever had was 27.5 I think.

January 2013 Mustang road trip 5803 miles

Took a 5803 mile trip in my 2012 Mustang GT/CS. NE Ohio to Tucson to southern TX (McAllen) and back To NE Ohio.

Car Specs:
2012 Mustang GT/CS
8600 miles on the car at start of trip
Manual Transmission
3.55 rear end.
No Tune/mods
Two people in the car and approx 200 lbs of misc stuff

Most travel was via interstate highway maintaining average speed of 5-9 mph over the limit (74-85 mph measured via GPS)

The average MPG was 22.20. Regular gas The car computer understated the MPG by an average of 2.24%. Highest MPG was 25.05 and the lowest was 17.21 (city driving in Tucson).

12,300 miles of mixed driving (including above trip) 20.79 MPG average.

I do not drive in ab economy manner as a general rule. I seldom skip gears and never end up taking the forced 1-4 shift.

was wondering the same...315s are the size of tire I was looking at putting on my car, not a rear end gearing ratio.

Man, u guys must be highly disciplined with ur right feet. I average 11 mpg city and i can barely get above 20 on the highway. Clearly I'm not trying for good mpg tho.

All 11-14 5.0 autos get 3.15 axle ratio. Manual trans cars get 3.31 or can option 3.55/3.73.

Oh I did get on it a few times on the interstate but had to stop unless I wanted to here the girlfriend yelling at me threw the whole trip.
Thanks for the info. It's good to know the fuel economy doesn't drop with a 93 tune, CAI and axel backs. Last summer without "spirited" driving, I averaged 22 to 24 mpg with my 5.0 auto with 3.15 gears. When I would get on it, the average would drop to around 20 to 22. Looks like the mods actually help fuel economy while adding power and throttle response. Win-win

I try not to hammer her and with the 3.15 gearing on my car 25mpg is possible, now if my wife drives it it drops to about 19-20 mpg.

I'm with you. I've had the car a little over a week & avg MPG for my first tank of gas was ~14, 90% city driving (according to track apps).

I've only punched it a couple of times too. Driving this thing for mileage is a completely different exercise than my old WRX. I think I need to get used to skip-shifting, and keeping it below 2k rpm.

Or stop worrying about MPG

29 mpg at 56/57 mph on the 20+ mile trip. Steeda 93 tune & cai.
I have got 30+mpg at 55 mph before on the same trip. It's the trip home from my ethanol free fill up station that I routinely check the mpg at different speeds. It's a moderately hilly 4 lane hwy.
