MPG Thread

i filled up, drove 1 mile to a hwy on ramp and then ~50 miles cruise set at 70mph (just a tad of the south side of the 2 in 2,000 rpm was showing) and i got 25.9mpg. 3500 miles. 91 oct shell gas. cool.

That's great. But you can do even better. Set the cruise at 66-67 and enjoy all the people who gawk as they fly by, lol. I often do the fill/reset in Peshtigo and get on 41 south to Green Bay and at that speed get just about 28 mpg. It's fun to see a good number as my city mileage is usually closer to 12mpg.

it's amazing how much a difference a few mph can make. so yeah i'll try 66-67 on my next trip up whenever that is. roll'n slow... in the 5 point 0

my city is in the 14.9-15.9 range. one night i wanted to burn a few gallons and I DID! that kind of sucked - how easily it is. i hit the highway 172 on-ramps about 4 times and wow there went just about 2 gallons!

To hell with gas mileage. I find it more fun to pull up behind a poke along, drop into the passing lane and punch it. quickly see them becoming a dot in the rear view mirror. Ain't that what owning a mustang is about.

I used to get that with my stock 18's then I went to 19s with an Airaid and the best I got was 22 at 70.

Except that in Seattle you have to go in the right lane to pass all the homesteading Prius drivers clogging the passing lane.

For months I set the cruise at 80, going from Orlando to Tampa. I was averaging 24.6 MPG. Then a few weeks ago, I set it at 70 (between the 60 and 80 mark on the speedometer). I got 27.7 after two days of the same trip!

These MPG averages are with a 3:31 rear gear setup in my 2011 V6.

While it feels like I'm crawling on the highway, your observations are correct with the passers-by. They'll get on my tail (I'm in the center or right lane), then zip by me. I'll guess they have a fun story to tell their buddys that morning over coffee that they smoked a Mustang; a V6 Mustang.

I'll take the MPG over that, and enjoy the ride.

I have a BAMA tune, Flowmaster Hushpower, Bassanai after cat X-pipe, and auto trans in my '12 5.0 and I get 24.2 mpg at 75mph with the A/C on. City mpg is 19-20mpg...if I drive sanely. My wife's V6 is NOT tuned and gets 24.0 hwy and 18 city. And I still have fun!

Last edited by Music man in Pcola; 1/30/13 at 07:51 AM. Reason: inclusion of auto trans info

You have to drive pretty wildly to get 24 highway and 18 city in a v6. I'm talking WOT at green lights, etc all the time. It's hard for me to dip below 22/30 and I drive spiritedly.

May be affected by a rear gear swap. If he has a taller gear than a 2:73 or 3:31, then I could understand the drop in mileage for that V6.

Or, he may just be having fun with it as you stated!

Is this the part where I quietly say that I get 31.2mpg @ 70mph and average 23.8 in rush hour city driving?

So very true. I have ordered phaser banks to remedy that situation.

in my experience in my small town, i see more prii drivers breaking the traffic laws more often than non-prii drivers. and most of those have identified their political support. although i'm sure in bigger cities with bigger minded people their experience with prii drivers are different.

I did about 120 miles of 55 to 60 mph running on a 2 lane road the other day and I was getting 25.4 to 25.5 mpg.
