DETROIT - Scratch the surface of the North American International Auto Show, and there was a lot going on under all those press conferences.
To wit: there's a contingent at Ford pushing to install the Lincoln MKS' EcoBoost V-6 under the Mustang's hood. The argument is that the lighter, 3.7-liter twin-turbo, gas direct-injection V-6 will produce more horsepower than the base V-8 and weigh less. While better handling, quicker acceleration and lower fuel consumption are upsides for the turbo engine compared to either the 4.6-liter or upcoming 5.0-liter V-8, Ford is concerned the market won't accept the engine. Remember the SVO Mustang?

I think the market would accept the TwinTurbo engines. However, despite my login name (comes from my old 300zx) would I choose this over a V8? NO WAY!
The turbo engines should supplement the V8s, not replace them.

As long as it performes I could care less about it being a 6 or an 8. I recently bought a new daily driver (Subaru Legacy GT) and I gotta tell ya Turbos kick. I got a little four banger that puts outs out 250 HP and will run neck and neck with 4th gen Mustangs..... Gotta love technology
This is what I would like to see!!

i'm all for having that engine in the mustang...
but...
V8 for the GT
It is one of my main reasons for going with it (as well as countless others)
The Mustang is about passion and emotion.
I bought the GT, so that when I crank it up and rev the gas, I want to scare women/children. You can not replace the sound of a nice V8....so don't
Make it an option but don't flat out replace

I think option is the best way to go. V8 fans want the V8 to be there, and V6TT buyers don't want their car to be considered any "less" than the V8 especially if the TT's performance matches that of the V8. So just make it an option between the two for the same "GT" Moniker.
How about a smaller displacement TT V8?...maybe like a 3.9L or something....Play with people's brains...its still a V8.....
Just give us the option to have the Mustang with whatever powerplant we chose!!! From the knuckle-draggin brute V8's to tree-huggin hybrids (yea, I'd buy one!!) so that it would appeal to more people!! There should be at least one V8, but having a choice of V8's would be even better!!
Believe me I will NOT be the first to buy an EcoBoost ( or Twin Force ). I still have a lot of bad memories from the last tubo era (based on friends of mine who were stupid enough to buy 1980s vintage turbos). I'll let somebody else do the field testing on the EcoBoost while Ford sorts out the problems, and I assure you there WILL be problems.
ok...so i want to change my vote...I say put the Ecoboost motor in the GT....as a special edition GT.....Call it the GT-G ..."G" for Green..(or somewthing to that effect)..still lots of power, but an engine option for the lead foot tree huggers! Keep the V8 the standard...but offer the TT at little or no cost....this is called taking baby steps.
The GT should be V8 powered period. However, Ford could offer an SE with the EcoBoost V6 - just don't call it the Boss, that SE has to be V8 powered and preferably 5.0L in displacement. Maybe the GS or ST as someone else suggested.
